Trump Will Allow ‘Dreamers’ to Stay in U.S., Reversing Campaign Promise
The New York Times ^ | JUNE 16, 2017 | MICHAEL D. SHEAR

WASHINGTON — President Trump has officially reversed his campaign pledge to deport the so-called Dreamers, undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as small children.

The Department of Homeland Security announced late Thursday night that it would continue the Obama-era program intended to protect those immigrants from deportation and provide them work permits so they can find legal employment.

A fact sheet posted on the department’s website says immigrants enrolled in the 2012 program, known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, “will continue to be eligible” to renew every two years and notes that “no work permits will be terminated prior to their current expiration dates.”...

Grania, there ARE NO “DREAMERS” WHO OBEYED THE “LAW.”

BY DEFINITION!

If you keep illegals from coming here, you won’t increase the number of dreamers. The focus has to be to stop the invasion.

I’m not sure I even understand this whole thing. What would be the rationale for even wanting children to stay here after their parents are deported?

The hope is that without DAPA, if the parents are deported the children will follow. Unfortunately, this will work for adult or near-adult children, however.

I’m guessing that with all the battles in front of him, Trump is deferring this one. Of course, there will be some who want this to be “the” battle.

That's when the whole farce became clear.

Seems that in your second post you have already resolved the matter to your satisfaction. I don't understand why you raised the earlier question at all.

Right -- I should have been more clear about that, and given credit to the other poster who pointed out what exactly this involved.

In my original post I was envisioning a scenario where parents were deported and young children were left here in the U.S. That probably doesn't happen very often (which is why I posted my first question). Then the other poster pointed out that this mainly applies to older children and young adults who were brought here years ago.

“That’s when the whole farce became clear. These illegal aliens are needed as customers to keep businesses and institutions open that would otherwise go out of business. “

Yep. And barrios that already generate inadequate tax revenue go from bad to nothing.

slumlord sadface.

Grania, there are no DREAMERS who obeyed the law

They're here unlawfully, that's for sure. And they shouldn't benefit from their parents participation in the criminal invasion of the US and more than any other criminals children should. Agree.

But when Obama set up the DREAMER law (which never should've happened), he gave them the opportunity to obey the law. Those that haven't signed up yet have demonstrated that they're no better than their parents. Those who did at least showed some desire to not be criminals. But they've had time. I wouldn't mind that distinction at this point. It sends a message....OBEY THE LAW.

I think I saw every single rally that DJT did during the campaign. My memory might be failing me, but I do not ever recall him saying he was going to make an effort to deport the DACA people. In fact, I distinctly remember him saying, repeatedly that “I have a heart, we gotta have a heart.” Remember, he is not giving a pass to the actual lawbreakers (parents), just the kids brought in tow. His heretofore benevolence can be pulled back at any time.

He is creating the leverage he needs in order to get his wall funded.

I hear this reported on Fox news. This is so incredibly sad. Trump lied. No one coming to the US illegally, regardless of their age, should get amnesty. Trump promised over and over and over during the election that on day one he would end amnesty. Everyone made excuses for him when he did not honor that promise, what say you now that he has proven the lie to that promise?

The DREAMERS will continue to demonstrate against the President. How will this benefit us?

trump NEVER promised to eject the “dreamers”, he said he was going to first kick out the criminal illegals and then think about what to do next.

NYT lying as usual.
