22 Foxconn, a Taiwanese corporation that assembles iPhones in East Asia, is considering building a plant in Wisconsin as part of a $7 billion investment that will create up to 50,000 jobs, according to the Associated Press.
The investment would be a huge boost to Governor Scott Walker as he prepares to run for re-election in November next year. During a visit to Milwaukee on Tuesday, President Trump hinted at the negotiations, by saying that Walker might get a very happy surprise soon.
Foxconns main production lines are in China, where it employs around 1 million people assembling smartphones for companies such as Apple, Blackberry, Sony, and others. Founded in 1974, it had announced its potential multi-billion dollar investment in the United States back in January of this year. Foxconn CEO Terry Gou had said that any decision would be made based on whether low-cost land or power could be provided by the state. At the time, Pennsylvania was the most probable candidate.
Tom Still, president of the Wisconsin Technology Council, argued that the investment would make sense, as similar electronic manufacturers are already located in the state:
It would be great for Wisconsin for a lot of reasons
I am assuming Foxconn was attracted by the fact theres already a skilled workforce here and theres a foundation to produce more such workers through the tech colleges and the other parts of the education system.

winning
Trump should put jobs in states he needs to win in the next election..that would really drive the libs crazy
I was an HR Rep. for the temporary staffing firm in a Foxconn plant in Alliance, Texas. Boy, that was great job.
We are up 601,000 jobs in the private sector since January.
We are down 7,000 government jobs since January.
We’re humming right along...
“Trump should put jobs in states he needs to win in the next election..that would really drive the libs crazy”
Winning Wisconsin was a big deal for Trump. This will be good payback for them.
New Coal Mine in Pennsylvania. 5000 jobs in Wisconsin. Two Pipelines restarted at least one completed. This is all Donald Trump has to do to succeed. Just keep on moving forward. if he does this all this pettiness and hysterical wailing, phony accusations et cetera from the left will simply dry up and blow away and at great expense by the way to the liberal loons
Meant 50,000 jobs in WI.
I wonder where in Wisconsin.
90:1 ia a bad ratio; would prefer one to one. :)
If you get these big plants the suppliers will follow
I worked on a couple of chip plants in Colorado Springs back in the 1980’s...
EPA drove must chip plants over seas..chemicals
I saw Walker and MO Gov Greitens there at the announcement today; wonder if something big is coming for MO?
U.S. has a lot of land and low energy prices could be a win win.
More of those jobs Obama and Hillary said are never coming back!
Can’t be true. If it was, the news would be reporting this. /sarc
LOL
It’s the Wisconsin, producing jobs, making of the Apple iPhone, iPads, and other such devices that people like to use and made right here in the USA. Remember the sitcom when Laverne and Shirley would work in Wisconsin stamping caps on beer bottles. Low tech. Not so good beer. Better pilsner from Czech Republic (then Czechoslovakia). But Laverne and Shirley are nothing compared to white frocked men and women assembling high tech devices for use by businessmen in New York and teens in Kansas City alike.
Oh, thats not you. Im picking up someone elses thought.
Ah, yes, yours. Youll never have any way of finding out unless youre on the inside, at least, until its too late.
We just recently had a similar situation. Town doing its best to die since the '70s. Big beautiful buildings on main streets, up to 10s of thousands of square feet total, empty or misused because nobody wanted to be here selling for literally a few thousand dollars. Some of these buildings for sale for 15+ years.
Overnight they all sold. Then a week or so later it was announced that a big employer was coming that would bring jobs and therefor create local money to fuel small business but it just so happens that all the small business locations that arent half collapsed were just bought up.
Darn the luck, hey.
