We just recently had a similar situation. Town doing its best to die since the '70s. Big beautiful buildings on main streets, up to 10s of thousands of square feet total, empty or misused because nobody wanted to be here selling for literally a few thousand dollars. Some of these buildings for sale for 15+ years.
Overnight they all sold. Then a week or so later it was announced that a big employer was coming that would bring jobs and therefor create local money to fuel small business but it just so happens that all the small business locations that arent half collapsed were just bought up.
Darn the luck, hey.
