ESPN’s Kellerman: NFL Is ‘Injecting Politics’ by Playing the National Anthem at Games
Breitbart ^ | June 15,2017 | by Trent Baker

The ESPN personality then argued that Kaepernick did not inject politics into the NFL, but rather the NFL injects politics by playing the national anthem and “putting pressure” on people to stand.

Partial transcript as follows:

They both were asked to do things that went against their conscience. In this country, in the United States of America, you don’t have to do that. We are free to make our own choices. And if our conscience is bothering us, we can follow that.

In Muhammad Ali’s case, he was asked to take a step forward and become a part of the Vietnam War, and he was against it on religious and moral and ethical principles, and he refused to take the step and he faced five years jail time but was ultimately vindicated in a Supreme Court case. OK, but he did have his prime stripped, his license revoked and he couldn’t earn a living for four years, all that.

Colin Kaepernick also did not go looking for a protest. It came to him. He was asked to stand for the national anthem. You do not have to stand for the national anthem. And even if it it was a rule that you did, is that Colin Kaepernick injecting politics in the NFL? No. That’s the NFL injecting politics by playing the national anthem and putting pressure on you to stand for it in the first place.

Does the International Olympic Committee inject politics into sports when it: (1) has men and women compete for their home countries, and (2) plays the national anthem of the winning team at each event?

And ESPN keeps wondering why they are losing more and more viewers. It’s asinine comments and views like that which is driving more and more viewers away.

I’ve been done with them for awhile now but it’s comments like that, drove me away in the first place. I see nothing has changed in their libtard bubble they live in.

Idiots! All of them!

Glad to have a Libtard affirm that honoring the flag and national anthem proves to be such an imposition on the liberal “conscience”....

I did too especially when he was with Teddy. Haven’t watched boxing for years. Used to like the middleweights and such like the Russian with the hair knot and the Arab-Brit Prince Nasseem but I never saw him fight again after 9/11/2001. I guess now Espn makes you sign a USA Dis-Loyalty Oath to remain under its employ.

My solution. Play the anthem at the first and last home games and the playoffs through to the Superbowl.

On September 5, 1918, at Comiskey Park, the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs were playing the opening game of the World Series, which started earlier than usual due to World War I. During the 7th-inning stretch, a military band played “The Star Spangled Banner” and Fred Thomas, on leave from the Navy, snapped to attention. From then on, the song has been played at every World Series game, every season opener, and whenever a band is present to play it. The custom of playing it before every game began during World War II, when the installation of public address systems made it practical.
