In my city (one of the five largest in America) there are plans to reduce a major road down to 2 lanes (one in each direction) to put in Uber stands and expand the sidewalks for vendors and crap.
It is also designed to reduce “car” traffic (they would be encouraged to find other routes).
Ultimately any development, especially residential, especially dense population with vertical redevelopment, needs proper city services INCLUDING emergency vehicle response.
About all they have over there are narrow roads. They remind me of rabbit warrens through the briar patch.
