Russian Intelligence Prompted James Comey's Blistering Presser On Clinton Emails,
Townhall.com ^ | May 27, 2017 | Matt Vespa

When the FBI knew the Russians were trying to interfere in our election, and they could—from time to time—peer into their networks and see what was taken. This is what they found, which reportedly influenced former FBI Director James Comey to hold a press conference on July 5, 2016 and issue that strongly-worded rebuke of Hillary Clinton and her team concerning how they handled classified information. A memo reportedly from Democratic operative reportedly made assurances that the FBI’s email probe would not go too far, then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch would ensure that. If the investigation ended with no charges and this was leaked, the credibility of the FBI would be in the crosshairs. The New York Times had a lengthy piece in April about Mr. Comey’s attempts to keep the FBI out of the political spotlight during the 2016 cycle, which proved all but impossible (via NYT):

During Russia’s hacking campaign against the United States, intelligence agencies could peer, at times, into Russian networks and see what had been taken. Early last year, F.B.I. agents received a batch of hacked documents, and one caught their attention.

The document, which has been described as both a memo and an email, was written by a Democratic operative who expressed confidence that Ms. Lynch would keep the Clinton investigation from going too far, according to several former officials familiar with the document.

Read one way, it was standard Washington political chatter. Read another way, it suggested that a political operative might have insight into Ms. Lynch’s thinking.

The notion that the Democratic-led DOJ could be playing favorites for Mrs. Clinton were further amplified by Ms. Lynch telling Mr. Comey not to call it an investigation, but a matter—and that 20-30-minute meeting between Ms. Lynch on former President Bill Clinton on the tarmac in Phoenix days before the July 5 presser. Mr. Clinton boarded Ms. Lynch’s plane where the two reportedly spoke about golf and grandkids. That was never going to suffice and the screams that the fix was in should no charges be filed would be deafening. The only problem was that Mr. Comey didn’t see intent, he saw gross negligence, but not intent which is the standard he wanted to go by, despite the letter of the law not having such a statute. That explains the blistering indictment of Mrs. Clinton’s judgment at the presser, and that of her staff. Mr. Comey wanted to show that the Democratic–run DOJ was not putting its thumb on the scales. At the same time, Republicans would say that’s all good, but he still didn’t file charges when it seems apparent that maybe he should have. Now, we know that the memo in question that former FBI Director James Comey took into account was not genuine and he knew that was the case (via CNN):

Then-FBI Director James Comey knew that a critical piece of information relating to the investigation into Hillary Clinton's email was fake -- created by Russian intelligence -- but he feared that if it became public it would undermine the probe and the Justice Department itself, according to multiple officials with knowledge of the process.

As a result, Comey acted unilaterally last summer to publicly declare the investigation over -- without consulting then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch -- while at the same time stating that Clinton had been "extremely careless" in her handling of classified information. His press conference caused a firestorm of controversy and drew criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.

Comey's actions based on what he knew was Russian disinformation offer a stark example of the way Russian interference impacted the decisions of the highest-level US officials during the 2016 campaign.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that this Russian intelligence was unreliable. US officials now tell CNN that Comey and FBI officials actually knew early on that this intelligence was indeed false.

President Trump fired Mr. Comey earlier this month over his conduct during this investigation, though Democrats find that explanation ludicrous. At the same time, the October 28, 2016 letter Mr. Comey sent to Congress informing them that more emails would be reviewed sent Democrats into a rage, with many calling for the then-FBI director to resign. When Trump did fire Mr. Comey, the outrage continued, but this time Democrats thought the move reeked of Watergate. That’s patently false. The hypocrisy has been thick from the Left over this.

Wonder how many agents it took to come up with this excuse for Comey?

So, let’s see ...

The Russians were trying to interfere with our election ...
To get their pal Donald Trump elected president ...
So Comey went public in July 2016 ...
To publicly criticize and embarrass Hillary Clinton over her sloppy and dangerous use of classified information.

Agreed. Common sense tells us there was no reason for Comey to get involved to this point. It was beyond the scope of his job and just another ploy for the Dem cabal. The only reasonable option for Comey in July ‘16 was to STFU. Even Hillary haters(me included) would have settled for silence.
He was paid to exonerate Hillary. He succeded. The ongoing debate is just fluff. Lock her and Comey up. Take Lynch also.

I think what they are trying to say is this: Russians hacked DNC servers and gained access to the depths of DNC depravity. So Comey had to pretend to hold Hillary’s feet to the fire, with the assurance that it was all Kabuki theater and that nothing criminal would come of it.

Working overtime to try to cover for Comey - so many articles with so many slants and now pretty much parroting his cover story about how he knew Lynch was compromised but never bothered turning her in....

time for Trump to prosecute clinton on her home server and all the malfeasance caused by it

After being elected Trump says he was not going after Clinton. Obviously she and the dhimmicrats didn’t get the implications. That means it’s time to STFU about Russian/Trump bogus collaboration.

They broke the unspoken bond......now it’s time to pay up....or Shut Up.

"The Washington Post reported Wednesday that this Russian intelligence was unreliable. US officials now tell CNN that Comey and FBI officials actually knew early on that this intelligence was indeed false."

Comey early on was touted as a highly ethical, honorable man. Seeing/hearing the shenanigans he's been involved in, I see a corrupt swamp dweller. Couple that with the recent revelation (for me), that Comey's brother is an accountant for the Clinton Crime Foundation.

If Comey is unbiased, then up is down, the sun sets in the East, and I'm gender fluid!

There isn't enough prison space in the world to hold these demorats!!!!

Comey knew it was fake and so does anyone else with an IQ much above room temperature.

WHY do FREEPERS still talk about RUSSIAGATE where President Trump is charged with crimes in the public arena with no evidence?

NOTHING

The RATS are guilty of so many felonies that even Marsha Clark could win case after case.

Comey and Lynch obstructed justice with the NO INTENT SCAM. The FIX was in and no eveidence could have been presented that would have allowed Hillary prosecution under Hussein Obama.

The real crimes were committed by BIG NAME RATS and their deep support staff. The Trials will go on for years once the arrests start. But to stop the arrests, the RATS have to keep the RUSSIAGATE silliness on the front pages.

It is hard to believe that the orders for the real crimes such as IRS scandels, FAST AND FURIOUS, RUSSIAGATE, EMAIL SERVER, Obstruction of Justice...... did NOT come from inside the White House.

The real prize here is exposing Hillary and Hussein Obama as the force behind the crimes.

No, we don't know that it was fake. The CNN article contradicts a WaPo article which said that the memo was disputed, some believing it was genuine, others believing it was fake. Why would Comey do a presser based on a document he KNEW was fake?

The WaPo article further states that the FBI NEVER INTERVIEWED ANY of the people specifically mentioned in the memo, including Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

It seems to me that the FBI did not WANT to know - or to believe - that the memo was genuine because it would open a whole can of worms of possible collusion between the Justice Department and the Clinton campaign.

Right, the article is nearly indecipherable.

My guess is that the memo that is fake is the golden shower memo and the other memo, of which apparently no copy has been produced, written by an unidentified individual, is supposed to opine that Attorney General Lynch would frustrate the investigation.

Why any of these memoranda would motivate FBI director to act as he did is unclear.

I am starting to think Trump is behind some of these anonymous sources. There is nothing there but the Dems, media and libs are in a frenzy. Everyone is waiting for Trump to be arrested and impeached. What a great way to blow up their creditability. Just keep throwing crazy stuff out there.

Shouldn’t the meeting between Clinton and Lynch therefore have initiated an obstruction of justice investigation into them both?

This story makes no sense.

If Loretta Lynch was compromised, Comey should have resigned and brought it forth to the public, like he threatened to do during the Bush Administration. He is a false martyr and loves the spotlight, but he is a phony. He has behaved like a Dem operative in the politicization of the DOJ and FBI. Frankly, Orlando was his fault, since they interviewed the terrorist and let him go after he claimed he was discriminated against because he was a Muslim. He dropped the ball in one of the worst attacks on US soil by a terrorist.

Obama has ruined these institutions, and the silence of the DNC media has frankly aided and abetted the unraveling of our security protection. While Obama, Brennan and Comey spent years illegally wiretapping American citizens and Trump campaign workers, they took their eyes of the Tsarnov Brothers, the Orlando terrorist and San Bernardino. So now we know our CIA spied on the US Senate, in a direct assault on our Constitution we have to have Brennan lecture us on what he is not comfortable with as some far removed Trump staffer having dinner with a Russian in a NY restaurant. Meanwhile Brennan and Obama deliberately and stupidly removed all references to Islamic Jihad from CIA and FBI manuals. While the Russians warned the US Government on Tsarnov, they ignored it. I don’t get it. I think Obama, Comey and Brennan wasted too much in time and resources on chasing Trump, leaking US secrets, lying about ISIS and Iran, and making sure there was no Islamophobia in law enforcement and not enough protecting us against Islamic terrorists in our midst, especially when they were specifically warned and even interviewed some of them.

Obama owes the American people an apology, especially to Donald Trump.

Can someone out there backtrack the story that Comey pardoned Hillary on July 5 because his agents were running down Hillary’s medical story and proving it was a lie. Once she lied to the FBI in an interview, she committed a crime and so Comey got wind of the non-politicized FBI agents actually building a real case by tracking her medical records so he instantly rushed the pardon.

That would explain his 20 minute diatribe to convict her, as throwing some red meat to the agents he infuriated.

This is also not the first time he infuriated FBI agents. Go back to the hideous Marc Rich pardon, whom the FBI was tracking on three continents as an international criminal. Bill Clinton pardoned him for a million bucks, and Comey said no crime was committed which any idiot with an insect brain would know was a blatant bribe. The agents were furious.

Face the reality Comey is a political animal and America has been put at risk for his unethical behavior.

He was also the General Counsel for Lockheed when they gave millions to the Clinton Fund - which should have forced him to recuse himself. Rules don’t apply.

Still does not change that Clinton was let off for things others would have been indicted for. Comey even admitted that.

Why would Comey make it a point to publically admit that the rule of law does not apply to “some” people? Even though it could be easily inferred from his actions that Clinton was above the law, Comey went out of his way to explicitly explain to the American public that others doing the same thing Clinton did would be indicted. That has always seemed odd to me.

Was he trying to telegraph that he was being extorted? Or threatened? Or was he telegraphing to Clinton that he was not done with her yet?

We’ll probably never know. Nevertheless, the precedent has been set and publically proclaimed. ‘Some’ people are above the law.

e.g. there is no rule of law.

When you learn evrything that Hillary put out there. Who in the State Department and who in the White House was not subject to blackmail. When Flynn was outed as having talked with Russians, it was not that it was illegal. It wasn’t. It was not that he lied about it. It seems almost everyone is lying. What made it so untenable was the fact that the Russians knew about it and he could be blackmailed. What a low standard that is when you think of the Clinton emails. They were virtually all grounds for blackmail. And the CIA says Russia had them all. And Russia may have others that we don’t know about yet.

Comey acted as he did because he's a government hack wackjob. He was trying to protect his job because he too thought Hillary would win.

As any right thinking person can see, this entire article is fake news...You fell for it hook line and sinker because you suffer from TDS.
