Nixon should have fought impeachment instead of resigning, he likely would have won!
Nixon was told by the R’s he needed to go as he was going to be impeached. I remember those days well. It was a big deal on TV and after the tapes were made known he was in bad shape.
Nixon did what at that time was considered the honourable (British spelling intentional) thing and resigned rather than harm the office and the country. And he also saw the writing on the wall with both houses of Congress, and the press, controlled by the opposition and run by people who hated his guts. He’d have lost and he knew it.

looked like he was gonna survive...but after the one tape was released, he had lied to the country and his allies so much, his support in the house and senate was just swept away...Dems had both house’s of Congress, plus they were really starting to dig into his finances. The media beat him non stop for a year and a half. He did the right thing...Democrats finally got their payback for Alger Hiss.
