I am for it but not for the reasons given. The low wage industries are exactly the ones that are helping to bring in more Mexican and other low income job seekers. They will not do it if they have to pay 15 dollars an hour. That is a good way to stick it to those corprotist C of C loving amnesty supporting sob’s. At that rate more Americans will take those jobs leaving wet backs out on the street. More jobs for Republican kids and for GOP donor class rinos get a stab in the front as they stabbed us in the back.

They won't pay the illegals minimum wage. They don't now in many cases. They'll pay them 75% of minimum wage, in cash, under the table. Raising the minimum wage makes it more likely that illegals will be hired rather than less. Americans pricing themselves out of a job.

You want $15 per hour?

Let’s make a deal, here’s our terms:

1. Cancel welfare, in its entirety.
2. Reduce SNAP cards and food stamps to “commodity” levels.
3. Abolish all unions.
4. Close down about half of the federal agencies, reduce the rest.
5. Include basic military pay to $15 an hour.
6. Like the minimum wage, increase social security by 100%.
7. Freeze Congressional wages for the next 25 years.
8. Sell all abandoned government real estate, consolidate the rest of the agencies.
9. Require congress to spend 6 months a year living in their own districts.
10. Pay the $15 minimum, but require them to maintain health insurance, deducted from their checks.

As it is places where you have to tip are becoming fewer and fewer, because it's just getting too expensive to eat out. Most of the new family type places around me are the Chipolte sort of model. A step up from fast food: you order, sit down and walk back up and get your food, get your own drinks, etc.

It's too bad because serving used to be a decent way to make a decent wage for a low skilled job.

That is true for some of the small employers but it is hard for a larger companies to do that. Plus so many of the corporate GOPers are phonies in s omany other ways and since they are, “working with the Democrats to get things done” that is all of the more reson to make them pay for it until they see the light.

This should be labeled, in all fairness and honesty, “The Forced Automation Act”, because it will force almost all businesses to research how to automate those minimum and medium wage positions out of existence!

Right now, many jobs have gone away in order to keep employment levels under the Obamacare employment limits. This Democrat effort will DESTROY jobs right, left and center!

The original purpose of minimum wage was to price labor rates higher than the perceived value of black laborers. In the present day, it cuts across all groups. If the value of the labor you can provide the employer doesn't stack up to the minimum wage, you're not getting hired. Pushing that minimum wage number upward excludes an even broader range of candidates. In my local economy, the bartenders at Applebee's and Chili's have a master's degree (MS). The bartender at Chili's has an MS in Chemical Engineering. At least the current job is somewhat relevant to the degree. There are so many very highly qualified people looking for work that the usual pool of candidates for minimum wage positions looks very uninteresting.

Robots don't spit in a customer's food to be spiteful. Nor do they piss in a burrito and add chunks of broken glass. Both offenses occurred at local Mexican chain restaurants that promptly closed the business when the news went public.
