Man, President Trump just never stops. Nothing gets in his way. This guy is a Viking walking among the fine china. The neo-sophisticates are in shock. No president has ever chastised them this way. Wonderful to see, and long overdue

I loved the headline for The Telegraph’s article on Trump’s speech:

They lined up like naughty schoolchildren - Donald Trump reads the riot act to Nato leaders

He definitely made it clear who the boss is.

It's not that there is one ultimate "NATO budget" containing all of the funds. While there is a central NATO budget, the vast bulk of spending is done by each country for its own forces, some of which may be allocated to NATO projects and operations. But if most of the countries are under-spending then of course their militaries are not resourced the way they ought to be to support potential NATO operations.... and 2% of GDP is not exactly a high target, it should be considered an absolute minimum. If the other alliance members are too weak (as they are, mostly) then the USA's forces (including crucial logistical resources such as tanker planes) are relied upon for too large of proportion of NATO needs.

Here's the graphic you're looking for:

These countries are fundamentally not serious about defense.

“We bear the cost of defending THEM, and they spend their money on social programs for invading Islamist polygamists who are destroying their culture.”

Very worth repeating and it’s not only with money, but also with the lives of our military and their families. Not that we are the only nation with their loss and sacrifice but most.

When it comes to the Nato doctrine that an attack on one is an attack on all, NATO is exclusively for defense of the other Nato members and not the US. It offers absolutely nothing in defense of the US. The only threat to the US would be from missiles incoming from overseas, i.e. China, North Korea, Iran and potentially other Mideast countries.
Other Nato members do not have the technology to defend against incoming missiles so we are on our own. No risk of a land war in the US because by the time their troop ships have left the harbor they would be sunk. Thank you, Atlantic and Pacific oceans which is our Nato defense. Europe on the other hands is connected to external threats by contiguous land mass and it offers threats of land wars and drawing in the US to defend them. Meanwhile we pay 70 per cent of the expenses for NATO.

That’s great. How come the Telegraph covers Trump better than any newspaper here?

Considering that the Berlin Wall came down 28 years ago, why is there still a NATO?
