Former FBI Director James Comey’s controversial decision to detail the FBI’s findings in the Hillary Clinton email case without Justice Department input was influenced by a dubious Russian document that the FBI now considers to be bad intelligence, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.
The secret document, which purported to be a piece of Russian intelligence, claimed that former Attorney General Loretta Lynch had privately assured someone in the Clinton campaign that the investigation into Clinton’s handling of classified information would go nowhere.
But according to people familiar with the matter, by August the FBI had come to believe the document was unreliable — and in fact may have been planted as a fake to confuse the FBI.

If this story is true, Comey should be charged with stupidity.
Comey acted like a man clearly being leaned on.
Did someone in Russia contribute a few ounces to this ton of pressure? Maybe.
That would mean that if DJT actually suggested that Comey "let it go," he would have been trying to protect Comey from himself.

Well, more importantly this pointless brouhaha over it. Comey was tested and found weak-willed. But the pontificators aren’t talking about how weak-willed Comey is. They are talking about who was Correct — the Democrats or the Republicans.
Suuure - now the FBI decides that the intelligence they gave to their head was flawed.....looks like Comey must be at least soiled if the WaaaaaaaPo is defending him.
And it might be that the FBI director just wanted to live. No sense, he might think, in coming down with a case of Arkancide.
Oh, that's a whole separate topic, and a much bigger one.
Now there's a Special Prosecutor investigating the whole farce, none of which had anything to do with DJT.
Well, I strongly suspect the upshot of this brouhaha is going to be that Mueller is going to turn up incontrovertible evidence that Comey was weak-willed and leaned upon.
And people will see this as the nakedly political thing it was, while Mueller shakes his own head in disbelief.
Remember, Hillary isn’t everybody’s friend. She has a wicked-witch reputation among many.
So the intel establishment set Comey up to be their fall guy.....and somehow it’s Trump’s fault?
I understand Comey and Mueller are big friends. These type investigations are nothing more than cover-ups.

Except in this case, all Russia can be is a link in the hearsay chain back to the source of pressure, the source of pressure being that Lynch is going to throw the Clinton server investigation. The material factor is Lynch throwing the investigation; not that the Russians know Lynch is going to throw the investigation.
The alternative is that the Russian communication is a hoax, a joke, a parody, immaterial to ANY investigation.
Classic “Muddying the waters”.
Comey must not be too bright if he was willing to allow himself to be fooled into this scheme.
