A small family pet chased off a trio of armed home invaders Sunday night after they attempted to rob residents at Woodland of Athens condominiums off Barnett Shoals Road, Athens-Clarke County police said.
The suspects appeared to be young males between 14 and 16 years old. Their intended victims a 20-year-old resident and his parents, ages 52 and 57 were in the living room of the home, with the front door open and blocked only by a baby gate, according to police.
About 10 p.m., one of the young bandits kicked down the baby gate and entered the home waving a handgun and saying, Give it up, Im not . playing, according to the police report released Monday morning.
Thats when the family pet came to its owners protection, according to the report.
While pugs are often described as a small dog friendly to strangers, this particular pug reportedly ran barking toward the home invaders, who turned tail and fled, according to police.
Nothing was stolen and no one was injured, police said.

When an angry dog charges in your direction, you have about three seconds to select between ‘fight or flight’.
Front door to the house, wide open at 10pm, protected only by a Baby-Gate? Not smart in this day and age.
We have 2 pugs. They are so sweet, totally devoted to us and they sure let you know when someone’s at the door. I have no doubt they’d protect us with everything they have if need be. Pugs rule........lol
Is that you Howie Carr?
Pugs are very protective
I also have Pugs. They are fine as long as we let people into the house but God help you if you open the fence gate and you’re a stranger! The bigger of the two weighs 30 lbs. and has the bark of a dog twice his size. We refer to him as the gentle giant. The smaller one does the nipping for the big one.
The thugs are lucky it wasn’t a well trained Schipperke.
They wouldn’t have escaped.
Was that the time the pig lost his leg? Wouldn’t want to eat a pig like that all at once...
Asking the normal rhetoric question....
Probably already know the answer....
We are on our second pug - a matronly looking old lady.
With the first one, my daughter researched where they came from - found that they are famous for barking to save their owners - one saved a royal person in England, I think.
We got our first one when my then 18 month old son could run across the livingroom at my brother-in-law’s pug and that dog never snapped at him. We had one out of the next litter. They ARE such sweet dogs!

Sorry for the double post. I left earlier and just came back and saw my post was still here and didn’t know I had already posted.......it’s all my Pug’s fault......lol
Oh, be still my heart............precious!!
A pug is just a kick away from low earth orbit.
As opposed to old males between 14 and 16 years old...right?
