Vermont tried a single-payer regime under Obamacare. The result - within 18 months they dropped the initiative because it would DOUBLE the state budget.

But, socialist idealogues never stop regardless of facts or logic.

California is on a bullet-train to bankruptcy.

“California is on a bullet-train to bankruptcy. “

As a life-long Californian, I am hoping that bankruptcy actually comes before Brown is gone. CA going under financially is my dream!

Just like in the ‘08 crisis, the linguini-spined Republicans in Washington would crap their pants, and then vote to bail them out. You know it.

(so do they apparently, it’s why they just keep spending)

I think the time is nearing for me to split my business up, maybe incorporate and reduce my Taxable Income to $25k per year, so I can get an EBT card, jump in my Plane and Fly to Vegas for a Nice Steak and Lobster Dinner at the Bellagio, and Pay for it with a newly issued EBT card.

California is on a bullet-train to bankruptcy.

You got that wrong. California is destroyed and bankruptcy is just not hard enough word. It is so far in the toilet no word has been invented yet. And this communists State should get no help from the Federal Government. Screw this State.

Remember though, right now corporations are paying this bill (or rather, a portion of this) in benefits.

That is real push for single payer health care. We are already in a socialized system, just trying to figure out who pays what.

knowing how the democrat fidiots in Sacramento operate, they will see this strictly as another valid means to tax the hell out of the people in the state. The heal of those in the Sacramento state house have their heals on the throats of the people of whom they are supposed to be serving. Under dem control Kalifornicate is certainly destined to go the way of Venezuela.

not everyone works for a corporation ...

not everyone has an employer subsidize the health insurance premium ....

The people that pay their own premiums get taxed differently than those that are subsidized by an employer ....

The real culprit is the tax code ...

Lara and Atkins say they are driven by the belief that health care is a human right and should be guaranteed to everyone

The mere proposing of this should be a FELONY, it is Guaranteeing citizens the Fruits of Labor of Another Citizen, Slavery!, Involuntary Servitude! I guess the Demonrats will Never give up on the prospect of owning slaves.

I don’t get it either. Most of the population of this state is stupid. They see no direct line between the laws passed by the state and their vote. When Brown signed the new gas tax and cigarette tax crap our local news station posted about him signing it on Facebook. Comment after comment about....we didn’t vote for this! And....shouldn’t we have voted on this?!?! They really have no idea how a representative government works. It’s pathetic.

” Under that scenario, total new spending to implement the system would be between $50 billion and $100 billion per year.”

What happens in year 2?

Good point. I was blessed to work for a large corporation for 40 years and the healthcare and pension benefits were great. That company has now gotten rid of pensions but still has good healthcare benefits. What will happen though is the corporations will welcome single-payer as a way from them to get out from under subsidizing healthcare for its employees (as you know). When "nobody pays" then everybody pays a lot more.

$400 billion? Double or triple that, and you’re in High Speed Rail territory.
