HOUSTON - Two Harris County poll workers pled guilty to unlawfully depositing a ballot during the May 2016 primary runoff election.
Jeanene Johnson and Latunia Thomas both took oaths swearing to be fair while working the polls during the May 2016 primary run-off. But prosecutors claim they broke that promise.
Investigators said Thomas forged her own daughter's signature and then illegally cast a vote on her behalf. They also said Johnson was aware of this and illegally checked the daughter in,even though she was not present.
They both pled guilty.
“You are stealing someone's vote, it's wrong, and we are going to be watching we are going to catch you and turn you over to the DA,” said Stanart. Both women have criminal records.
Thomas pled guilty to disorderly conduct in 2007 and assault in 1989.
Johnson was accused of hindering apprehension in 2003 and convicted of check fraud in both 1990 and 1980. She was also accused of theft in 1984.
Stanart said both women were nominated by the Harris County democratic party. His office knew about their past, but decided enough time had passed to let them work the polls.

Unless I missed it, the investigation of “irregularities” of Detroit votes was dropped as soon as they realized there were big problems.
Ds want the single-vote fraud prosecuted now and then so they can agree that vote fraud is real when forced but quickly start talking about cases like this instead of the ones that really matter. I’d bet that Rs work with them to shut down the significant vote fraud investigations.
I think people like her get re-elected due to the (cheating) power of the political machine, not because people like her or are stupid.

Because conservative votes don’t matter...
But since the Dems are the only ones doing any sort of significant fraud the system is okay with it being looked at as a petty issue. We know it’s serious - and I agree with your point that it deserves a harsh punishment - but the elected republican officials don’t care since they’re already feeding at the trough and setting themselves up for the lobbying jobs later. And the dems don’t care because they benefit from it.
I seriously believe it will eventually be left to the American people to clean up the DC mess. Providing of course the American people will, at some point accept that responsibility.
