Enormous concession by Bob Schieffer, that President Donald J. Trump “actually sounded presidential”.

The entire coterie of anti-Trumpers who claim to deny legitimacy to Number 45, waving petitions and shouting through bullhorns, is repeatedly surprised and dismayed at how time after time, Trump both confounds them and turns their arguments around against them.

In the words of Dubya, the press and the anti-Trumpers in general have “misunderestimated” The Donald.

By a wide margin.

Well, your point of view is the result of not seeing the bigger picture and what is best for Trump, the presidency and the country. Your opinion is if I like it, it is good enough, but sometimes, that is not a good enough perspective.

Trump deeply hurts himself with his uncontrolled rants. They accomplish nothing.

What you should want is a president that people respect. You respecting him is not good enough. Trump will never get his agenda passed in the way he is conducting himself. You should want a president who has strong support so the flyover folks will pressure Congress to do what Trump wants. That is not true at the moment.

I would hope you would want Trump to conduct himself in a way that generates support and respect. I realize he is new and doesn't have much experience being a politician and I expected a somewhat rough start. New administrations tend to be somewhat chaotic even with seasoned politicians, but Trump has dug himself a hole and it will take awhile to crawl out of it.

He will crawl out of it by behaving in a way that conveys competence, discipline and substance. If he doesn't, Congress will do their own thing. Congress does not answer to Trump, they answer to their own voters who know their congressman who they generally trust. Their congressman was there before Trump and will be there after Trump and it is important to understand that.

But if you're happy with cheap points and laughs from tweets, then by all means revel in them.

My unscientific poll of the Trumpers I have asked, says 100% of Trump voters love his tweets, his “real guy” attitude and way of speech and are encouraged by his image as a brawler.

Complaining about Trump’s style of presentation is simply a cover for envy at his ability to project authenticity that is reciprocated and loved by his supporters.

I believe this is the 2nd speech the opposition has had to grudgingly admit was Presidential. The other one was his address to Congress. Trump is obviously multifaceted and can walk and whistle at the same time. Trump may be able to solve the MidEast situation. What a blow that would be to those who are embarrassed by him. The president of Egypt called him a unique personality who can accomplish the impossible. Oh noes!! Foreign leaders respect POTUS Trump!

Hardly anyone cringed as much when LBJ showed his abdominal scars, pulled his beagles’ ears, swore like a sailor and arm-twisted his way through Congress. Not to mentioned lied us into an unwinnable, hated war they later tried to pin on Nixon.

The oppos just want to separate Trump from his base. Ain’t happening.

To your post: respect isn’t what will get the attention of Congress and the media. Fear will do that. Trump needs his base to pressure Congress and the media. Base likes his style. Base hates hypocritical snobs who act like libertines in private and pontificate on behavior in public. Trump won against all odds and a multitude of powerful enemies. Why should he listen to advice from idiots who never accomplished a thing in their lives except perhaps to buy their way to power by allowing themselves to be blackmailed?

Remember, most of Hillary’s voters do not like her. They are scared to death of her and her cadre and toe the line and tug the forelock in hopes of being eaten last. They masochistically wait for anyone who defies her to be murdered, or at least fired and smeared. Eventually, they will like Trump, if only because he defies the thugs and bullies. They may wait until Hillary dies to admit it, though.

” his uncontrolled rants”

“But if you’re happy with cheap points and laughs from tweets, “

That’s not how I see his tweets. I don’t view them as uncontrolled rants but as very much under control, and they accomplish what he wants. So I disagree with most of what you say. We’ve wanted a president who fights back and that is what Trump does. I love his press conferences, no mincing words to elitist reporters. Elitists will never respect him no matter what he does. Why should he cater to them??
