Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson held a joint press conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

At one point in his opening statement Adel Al-Jubeir told reporters the House of Saud was looking forward to “draining the swamp” of extremism.

The best way to stop sunni terrorism is to convince the House of Saud to stop funding and arming the sunni terrorists. That is probably what Trump is after. And of course making some killer business deals. The world needs to walk away from these proxy terrorists wars that have created millions of refugees.

The Saudis protect and finance the Wahhabi.

In many ways it was initially the other way around. The house of Saud transitioned from the second empire to become the third as promoted and pushed by the Wahhabi influenced tribes.

The house also profited by the "movement" of the islamic push against nomadic life as being outside strict muslim control. That movement regionally was the Ikhwan who became the militia under al-Saud and later the National Guard of the kingdom. They went beyond his control, parts rebelled and were put down in 1929 in the Ikhwan revolt.

When the word ikhwan is used in Arabic it means Brotherhood and can mean Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and elsewhere or the Ikhway movement in Saudi Arabia. Both are conservative jihadist.

In part these groups begin to explain why the western use of the term fundamentalist when referring to factions in Islam is stupid -- they are all fundamentalist, there is no moderates, only slackers like the bedouin groups living as nomadic tribes.

A "moderate" muslim in most of the world is a revolutionary apostate and is allowed to be put to death by others without recourse.

This is as difficult as learning the Reddit universe or ancient Hindu beliefs -- it is impossible for discourse without the historical understanding.

This Patriot will never forget the horror of 9/11. I unashamedly cry for those poor souls every 9/11. The a-hole trying to shove a check onto Rudy was disgusting. The commission was a utter disgrace. The WOT is a complete waste of blood and treasure. Our country was lobotomized and Constitution shredded. Saudi Arabia and Iran still wag the American dog.

Whatever the permutation, this evolution of Islamic culture that has fostered the barbaric Muslim jihadism that is tolerated and encouraged by much of the Islamic world. It underscores the fallacy and risk to Western culture of those who embrace globalism and multiculturalism as social and political ideals. Face it. Islamic culture is simply not compatible with the institutions, values and practices of modernity. In fact most of the violence and chaos within the Islamic world is that Islamic culture cannot withstand the challenge of Western modernity. It cannot reform and is inherently unstable. The Saudis and the Gulf states owe their temporary stability to great oil wealth and harsh repression. Islamic political culture is simply not sustainable in the modern world. Western leaders who embrace politically correct bromides of “tolerance” and “multiculturalism” are delusional and will face an even more difficult problem in the near future. Sadly the leaders of Western Europe are delusional or in the case of the French bought and paid by the Saudis. Most disappointing is the observation that Trump does not fully appreciate the dynamic. Wonder where he was on 9/11?

Well said.

I doubt that the President is any less delusional about the realities than most of the Bush team was in that era. The Art of the Deal is going to still come into play and Trump knows how to use his roughneck flattery to his advantage.

If anything is going to change with ISIS this is a hedge and alignment visit he has to make.

There's a reason every country in the world (except the Deep State EU puppetmasters) has their presidents practically lined up on the tarmac to meet Mr Trump. Could it be he has dropped the regime change chaos of the past two administrations? The tradeoff seems to be cooperation in disintegrating ISIS, and the door is open, and we won't tell you how to run your countries.

I thought the President of Columbia practically said as much. In today's presse, the Saud said they'd respect the results of the Iranian election and their right to self-determination. What would not be tolerated is destabilization of other countries and supporting ISIS.

Islamic extremism does not exist.

There are only two types followers of Islam. The good Islamic follower and the bad Islamic follower. One should avoid and never tolerate the good Islamic follower. As for the bad ones, you should never completely trust them.

There is 0% chance of reforming Islam and this is one reason why the hardcore central planners tolerate using Islam to attack Western ideals. The 19th century/early 20th century socialists observed/deconstructed Islam to death and came to this futile conclusion: Islam is a counter-hegemonic force, hence why they tolerate the “hypocritical” stuff in order to get Islam on “their side”.
