Villagers say theyll boycott St Davids Church, in Blaenporth, Ceredigion, Wales, in protest.
Church bosses say pilates is OK, but not yoga, which might be seen to be in conflict with Christian values and belief.
If yoga has a religious origin, this information should be given to Christians instead of presenting it as mere exercise.
Why waste the time? Should spin instructors teach the history of bicycles? Should Zumba instructors teach the history of Latin music?
Sorry but your strawman argument is idiotic. Exercises do NOT teach their history, THAT’S for religions. The very fact that the don’t go into that info proves it’s not a religion.
So is Bingo, and potluck, and ice cream, and pianos, and pipe organs, stained glass...statues (graven images) and pants....etc etc etc!

I like ice cream as much as anyone, but I haven’t run into a ice cream religion, so far. i.e. you got apples v. oranges there.
Yes, I saw who the quote was attributed to. Doesn’t change the fact that the statement is based on the legalistic principles of consent which are designed to protect individuals and corporations from law suits.
Maybe we should just hide the religious origin of yoga. Let’s pretend it started in the 20th century and has nothing to do with Hinduism.
That way, we won’t have to deal with any unwanted implications.
No—the moral implications of informed consent.
Understand the full context.
It’s NOT HIDDEN. And American yoga DID start in the 20th century.
You need to learn to cope with FACTS. The FACTS are that you’re full of it.
What if yoga instructors want to explain the religion in yoga? Is this wrong?
You seem very emotional about this.
It’s a waste of time. Especially since there is no religion in American yoga. So why should they lie to the class?
That's why I mentioned the use of Hindic herbs like turmeric and Piper nigrum. But no one seems to be taking that seriously. It seems that stretching the hamstrings is more problematic than ingesting holy Hindic substances.
The church has largely failed in her duty to protect her people by providing even the most rudimentary education on the pragmatic reality of evil in the world. Yoga, as a form of submission to demonic entities seeking their intervention, is much like the “Ouija” board or drugs or tarot cards. The persons intent is not that important— they may think it is just a stupid game, fun, or exercise, or way to relieve stress. In spiritual warfare, the principals and powers aligned against God are sealed— restricted as to their action by formal rules imposed by God; they can’t enter a person’s life unless they are basically invited, with special exceptions possible. Demons don’t care what a person’s will or intent is, as long it touches the legal boundary of invitation they may enforce their right to enter that person’s life and begin to create harm.
As an aside—and if we’re going to classify yoga as a type of sport—I’ve noticed something rather humorous.
Yoga is like the marijuana of exercise. You just can’t criticize it.
Yoga is no more a religion than praying is "a religion".
Dealing with wilful idiots and liars is frustrating. Meanwhile you’ve been repeatedly proven wrong, your arguments are fallacious and silly. We’re done.
Very good comment. I’ve been wanting to say something like this but haven’t been able to articulate it. Well done.
The “full context” would have to start with the foundational purpose of the statement which is the legal purpose behind its origin. I thought the origins of things were all important in this discussion!?
Oh look more lies. Nobody is classifying it as a sport. And you can criticize it just fine, just don’t LIE about it. See if you could just stop being a no good worthless liar this discussion would be over.
In truth, I’ve enjoyed discussing with you. I think you seem quite intelligent and I would think that you’ve been able to put that intelligence to good use for yourself, and hopefully for others close to you.
Yes.
They’re called “moslums”.
