“It would have the governor negotiate with the federal government to give California more autonomy as what supporters call a “nation within a nation.” Or the talks could eventually lead to full independence.

(Excerpt) Read more at usnews.com ...”
The main problem they have is other liberals. Conservatives would love to give California more autonomy just like we want to give the same to every state. We actually want to follow the U.S. Constitution and let states Govern all domestic matters period.

Based upon the way California voted in the last few presidential and senate elections, its clear California doesn’t want that. California leftist wont be satisfied until they can make slaves of their entire population to impose their socialist choices upon.
While these people are still U.S. Citizens i’m not ok with that. At the same time i can’t deny that no clause in the U.S. Constitution prohibits states from withdrawing by the same means they entered. If California holds a convention and the large majority of the people vote themselves out, they are out. That is of course citizen, not recent invaders from the south.

Divert the water through AZ. And expand crop production in eastern CO. 2-3 weeks of no water will destroy the crops in CA. Longer without power, LA will become third world. And it takes years to build power plants. CA will cave in no time.

The 9th biggest economy in the world and the largest agricultural region in North America is not going to starve.

The northern and inland counties are red, and should have the choice to stay in the US.

I absolutely support "Calexit".The state is populated largely (but *not* entirely) by the filthiest pigs who've ever walked on two legs.Give California its independence and then build a wall 25 feet high and ten feet thick to its east and north.

I'm willing to pay 25 cents a pound more for broccoli then I do now.And as for vacationing there (and retiring there)...sorry,Florida's much nicer!

We should divert the Colorado so it doesn’t border their territory.

Go. Get out. No foreign aid. Have fun when Mexico invades (formally and military).

“I would vote for this only if they would have no representation in Congress and couldn’t vote for president. I don’t want them to be independent AND have a say so in our national affairs. That’s having the cake and eating it too. It would be like Scotland in the UK.”

If they can do it then every state can do it, that means no more oppressive Obamacare, ATF, EPA, high taxes, Department of Education, ect... Basically every unconstitutional intrusion we hate about Washington D.C. gone.

With free states the socialist world California creates will collapse on its face as all the people who actually want to work and live in freedom leave.
Socialism can’t elusive without some kind of wall to force the productive to stick around and support the ever larger portion of the population that is gaming the system as lazy welfare bums.

Divert the water through AZ.

That would be a hostile act of war. Why would we want to do that? I want CA to succeed in seceding. Not fight them. I want them gone. How can I help make #CALEXIT a reality?

No they shouldn't. Sacramento of the capitol of all of CA. If the CA legislature and governor engineer a secession voted on and passed by the people of CA then the whole state goes. Posthaste.

“Go. Get out. No foreign aid. Have fun when Mexico invades (formally and military).” The funny part is Mexico invading California is only a real problem because California are so naive and socialist.

Mexico is corrupt, and dysfunctional, they could’t beat California as it is now. But California free of the U.S. Constitution’s requirement they actually give some basic level of respect to peoples individual rights would become every bit as corrupt and dysfunctional as mexico within a few generations.

Mexico would simply walk in, flood the state with its loyal and ethic population and anext it with barely a fight.

BTW, the Colorado River and its tributaries flow into CA.

Hey, looks like the Colorado is the southeaster border of CA so the US could claim it as theirs. And since the CA and all of the anti-military types don't have a military of its own, it will be defenseless.

Also, last time I checked, the reservoirs and dams along the Colorado are not at full capacity. Should give us enough time to divert the water and expand crop production in the rest of the states.

Or better yet, charge exorbitant prices for the water that flows downstream and into CA. $10 per gallon sounds about right.

No reason we can’t hold Carolina to the same standard, and let the Conservative parts of California vote themselves free of the socialist republic and rejoin the USA.

That’s what Lincoln allegedly did with west Virginia while it was under union army occupations. So what if it is done legitimately this time? Northern California has lots of reasons to leave the socialist state of California starting with their freedom. We should not say no.

Well, they would be another country, correct with their own interests. Why would we give without getting something in return? I am okay with feeding water to CA but for a price.

The silly environmental policies over the years have left CA vulnerable and not self-sufficient — power production, water, etc.

But look what has happened to Venezuela, which is starving despite its vast oil reserves, Zimbabwe, once the breadbasket of southern Africa, or Cuba, where sugar and bananas, once produced in huge quantities, are rationed. This could happen in California if the mindset that currently dominates Sacramento is allowed to run unchecked.

CA is perfectly capable of being an independent successful (albeit euro-socialist) country. There may be viable arguments against CA Independence but that is not one of them.

All you have to do is look at a country like Germany. That is what CA becomes without the balance of the blue states holding them in check.

They could make Hollywood their “nation’s capitol”...Martin Sheen and Alec Baldwin could run against each other for president...

***************

Or they could just make ‘Babs’ the Queen of California.

A lot of counties have water usage agreements. These are not new.

What happens to people in California who don’t want to secede?

Suppose there’s a vote, and suppose the vote is 60-40% in favor of secession. What happens to the 40%; do they retain their American citizenship even if living in the independent nation of California? Would they be compelled to move to another state to retain citizenship?

What about social security benefits earned; federal taxes paid by Californians??

What about California’s share of the $20 trillion national debt? Does California have to absorb that and pay it off?? Or can they just walk away from it?

What about all the military bases in California? They are American bases; will California have its own army and navy?

Also, the last time this happened, there was a war. Check your history.

The risk here is that CA might develop alliance's with China or Mexico. Although I doubt that Mexico has much to offer other than impoverished citizens. But this would be a “put your money where your mouth is” moment for CA.

China on the other hand....

And there is the risk that other states might follow.

But there’s also Sweden, Germany, etc. as liberally run countries as examples. I see it ending up more like them. There are enough intelligent people in CA that understand you don’t totally kill the golden goose.

California already does what it wants, so I don’t see a lot of changes there. Where the impact would be more significant if it left, would be in the rest of the US which would become significantly and permanently more conservative at the national level.
