Swedish Police officially dropped their seven-year long investigation into rape accusations against Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, but a British arrest warrant still hangs over his head.
Assange, 45, was the subject of an arrest warrant from Sweden during the height of Wikileaks prominence in 2010, over accusations he had raped a woman in the country. Fearing an arrest by Sweden would lead to his extradition to the United States where he is wanted for espionage, Assange went to ground in 2012 by taking refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he has lived ever since.
While the arrest warrant for Assange from Sweden has now expired after Swedens director of public prosecution decided to drop the case, Assange is still subject to a British arrest warrant for failing to surrender to court when requested on 29th of June 2012.
A statement from Londons Scotland Yard police headquarters said Friday morning:
Westminster Magistrates Court issued a warrant for the arrest of Julian Assange following him failing to surrender to the court on the 29 June 2012. The Metropolitan Police Service is obliged to execute that warrant should he leave the Embassy.
Whilst Mr Assange was wanted on a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) for an extremely serious offence, the MPS response reflected the serious nature of that crime. Now that the situation has changed and the Swedish authorities have discontinued their investigation into that matter, Mr Assange remains wanted for a much less serious offence. The MPS will provide a level of resourcing which is proportionate to that offence.

Figured there wasn’t much to this. Appeared a set up from day one. Don’t see the US prosecuting him either since he is only publishing what he gets, not the one stealing it, and, besides, didn’t do it in the US and is not a US citizen.
Mr. Assange should take care lest he slips in the shower and hits his head.
He’s not going anywhere unless he pulls a Snowden and a Russian diplomatic limo takes him to Russia but that’s not happening unless Vlad thinks he can be of use.
Read the Espionage Act before making definitive comments about the act of knowingly accepting custody and dissemination of classified materials.
Assange is not a U.S. citizen. Our beef is with the Americans that committed treason. Find them, convict them, execute them.
Meanwhile “Chelsea” Manning who actually stole classified material is out of prison and the darling of the Hollywood crowd. Maybe Assange should change his name to Julia and start wearing a dress.

The short of it: they’re discontinuing it not because they think he’s not guilty, but because they don’t believe there’s any chance that Ecuador will ever give him up before the statute of limitations runs out. But if he happens to become available later for some reason or another, they may reopen it.
Am I being paranoid? I know the US wants Assagne “quiet” so dropping these charges now seems suspect. Also suspect is another one the US wants “quiet” is Anthony Weiner who is set to plea today.
My conspiracy theory brain is telling me to get these guys off the airways now.
and don’t walk in the park

Three shift of surveillance with 10 men each. Down from 12 men each.
When does the statute of limitation run out for a charge of failing to appear for a charge that’s withdrawn?
I would imagine that if any unfortunate accident were to befall him, many safeguards are in place to release tons of juicy items.
Legal systems everywhere have become a complete joke - also, vicious & malicious.
