We need another “Cash for Clunkers” program to get these cars off the street before poor people buy them!

Government policy to encourage car sales has a price.

I’m looking for a car right now.

And I’m not joining a “sharing” site.

I want my own ####ing car regardless o what silicon valley wants.

And it’s gonna be fast and eat gas and spit it out :)

In Colorado there are used car sales by all of the major rent a car name brands. Hertz, Avis, Budget, to name a few. Usually, 1 or 2 years old and 18,000 miles to 45,000 miles. Big discounts for 1 year old cars.

2015 I got in an accident, the used market was functionally dead. Cars with 50,000 miles on them selling for only a couple grand less than new. Which worked out well for me as I opted to spend the extra 3 grand got a new car with the maintenance for life and massive warranty. But then it feeds into the normal cycle, with all those new cars being sold then they’ll be a glut of used cars, which will dump new car sales, which will hurt the supply of used cars a few years later, which will drive up new car sales... Lather, rinse, repeat. That’s how life works.

It’s no wonder that new cars/trucks aren’t selling. Auto parts are through the roof and here’s something to think about if you get into an accident with a late model vehicle.

A Land Rover headlight costs $2500 (each)
Chev Silverado headlights cost over $1500 (each)
Tailgates over $2000 (2017)
Chrome Truck rear bumpers assy over $1200

I just picked up a '15 Tacoma 4x4 with less than 7,800 miles on it. Practically brand-new.

The best part is that it has the older 4.0 liter V6 in it and not the newer, smaller CAFE-compliant ones that are being forced down the consumers' throat.

It's the first vehicle I've ever owned that I would actually be pissed off if something happened to it.

Many good used cars were destroyed by that ass clown Perz with his ‘Cash For Clunkers’ fiasco.

As a hobby, I regularly buy and fix up cars. There is a sweet spot where you can get a 10 yr old car for $500 to $1000. I’ll rebuild the engine or trans and get everything working and sell it for around $3500. I currently have a 2004 Pontiac Vibe that I rebuilt the engine on that I bought for $650 and will sell for $3000. Nice car, everything will work and last someone a long time. I also have a 2001 BMW 330i in my driveway that I paid $1k for. Runs rough. It needs a coolant pipe and vacuum leaks sorted out. A couple of hundred in parts and it’ll sell for an easy $3500.

I buy to own so I feed into the used car stockpile. Once my cars are paid off (usually four years or sometimes five), I trade them in for something new. I don't run my cars until the wheels fall off. Some say that's financially dumb but I don't care. I'm fastidious about my cars. I don't eat in them and I don't like taking on used cars that has somebody else's food stains. Also, I don't want to pay maintenance for somebody else's bad habits. For example, I almost never need brake work done because I downshift as much as possible to slow down and go very easy on the brakes. I go four years most of the time on the original brake pads.

I get the oil changed every 6,000 miles, get a couple full tuneups and change the tires once after maybe 50 or 60 thousand miles and then it's on to a new car.

Yeah, I probably pay more in the long run than "running until the wheels fall off" but have much less hassle.

.
The only part of the “used car glut” that is a dealer’s dream is pickups and standard size SUVs.

The tiny bubble cars are everyone’s nightmare, especially after Trump guts CAFE standards, and gives a true standard of total efficiency, rather than the useless MPG.

I like the older model Escape’s shape better than the new ones. It has larger windows. There isn’t a reflection of the dashboard on the front window when the sun is out. It seems to have more space up front, and best of all, it has large beverage holders.

look for an off-lease Honda from a Honda dealer that is certified as a Honda’s Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle. check the dealer’s online carfax to see where car was driven and how long it’s been sitting on the lot and how desperate the dealer is to unload it.

pick the model and model year based on reliability information in one of these:

https://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_9/142-0197278-1516872?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=lemon-aid+guide+2017&sprefix=lemon-aid%2Caps%2C186&crid=I9UVDE1JT2KQ

worth buying, but probably available at your local library as well.

off-lease Toyota Certified Pre-Owned models should be excellent too.

Measuring from Hurricane Katrina, till now, how many of those “used cars” have sat in flooded areas, and on the sales lots, with each major storm system that has come across the CONUS?

I’d wager the reporter who wrote this is now a brand spanking new owner of an off-lease Ford Escape at a great - and I mean great - price. You won’t find a better deal this side of East Orwell!

“vehicles are coming off leases...” Leasing is not the best option for increasing one’s credit. Purchasing a two year old car is the best option for saving money.

Hyundai sells every car that they make and my family has had six. Hyundai’s are awesome, thanks to the brave American soldiers in the 1950’s.

After Cash for Clunkers trashed so many of them, I'm shocked there's a glut, even if people can't afford cars.

Hell, Toyota still sends me letters to trade-in because they have customers who want my car. (I told them to send them my way, and we could talk.)

So speaking of used cars...anyone in the market for an o4 suburban with 270,000 miles? Runs great, just getting broke in. $3,000 and this sweet ride is all yours.
