President Donald Trumps decision to dismiss former FBI Director James Comey has precipitated a small cataclysm in the nations capital, as commentators speculate that Trump has dealt a deathblow to his administrations integrity.
Whether the public shares their assessment is still an open question, but Trump could strike a blow for competence and trust by installing a seasoned prosecutor widely admired by his political opposition Judge Merrick Garland, former President Barack Obamas last nominee to the Supreme Court.
The White House has been silent with respect to possible successors, names like Michael Chertoff and Ray Kelly have circulated widely in the hours after Comeys dismissal.
The strength of his resume alone could make Garland a serious candidate. The judge is a veteran of the highest levels of the Department of Justice, where he executed and supervised sensitive investigations and prosecutions of the sort America can expect in the coming years.

His appointment would also open a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Democratic appointees have a 7-4 advantage on the court, widely considered the second most important in the country, as it has jurisdiction over most federal agencies. Trumps allies in conservative legal circles would relish the prospect of another GOP appointee on the panel.

Amazing! When throwing out spitball ideas, it’s best if it makes some sense. And in the piece, Chertoff was mentioned? That cadaver?
How about Joe DiGenova, Sheriff Clarke? Somebody good, maybe.
Oh, please.
Why does the FBI Director have to be some attorney/judge that is driven by politics? Why can’t the Director be a COP? It is, after all, a law enforcement agency, not a law firm.
How about Rudy Guiliani??? Seems like he as the best credentials of all. Knows the law (prosecutor), knows the politics on both local and federal levels, and has a strong background in security (his post-mayoral job).
NEWS: Trump's considering MIKE ROGERS, ex-congressman and FBI
agent from Michigan, to replace Comey at FBI, I'm told
Nope.
Hell, just nominate Hillary. I’m sure she will get to the bottom of,..................ummmmm. Oh yea, the bottom of the bottle.
Yeh that’ll happen. Not! :-)
...commentators speculate that Trump has dealt a deathblow to his administrations integrity.
Major Hogwash and Bullshit!!
Well, that’s an interesting suggestion, but wouldn’t an Ambassadorship to Somalia be more in line of what he is suited for?
Drugs alone could not get these people that high, they have been launched into orbit with a Saturn V rocket. Why the Trump Administration would want ANYTHING to do with Merrand Garlick escapes me altogether.
Democrats, you have NO POWER to make demands that your agenda be promoted in any way or that you have true veto power over the right thing for the country. Oh, you can have a tantrum, and obstruct, and carry arson to the far corners of the land, but all of this is extralegal, and whether you believe in the rule of law or not, some kind of order will be restored.
Who is the next suggestion, Governor Lard Ass from New Jersey?
Provocative?
!!!!!!!!!!!
Outrageously foolish!
Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
I don’t want to ever again hear the name Merrick Garland!
That stupid idiot, self-proclaimed “Republican” Geraldo Rivera, actually said that President Trump should use the next SCOTUS opening to nominate Merrick Garland!!!
Memo to Kevin Daly:
Stoned, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life.
Ha ha ha ha go away stupid person.
I hate to say it but if the DC brain trust wants a rerun of 9/11 ,, its well on its way to achieving it.
Chertoff?? Gorelick is already back.. ??
The fate of this nation is sealed and even Trump has proven to be ineffectual when it comes to tossing the scoundrels out of the BeltWay.
Garland must have been going to be one of the Left’s greatest moles. They really wanted him on the Supreme Court. The fact that they are still trying to get him into government, especially in the Deep State bureaucracy, gives you every reason you need to NEVER let Garland be anything but an unemployed Lefty.
We owe them nothing.
Trump himself could have started this rumor and the effect would be the same.
It sows confusion and discord among our enemy, the Left.
Merrick Garland has ZERO chance of being appointed Director of the FBI.
That said, this article may give some Leftie snowflakes a glimmer of hope...a distant dream.
We can bathe in their tears when their dreams are dashed.
Exactly. When working to catch the criminal mind, to choose a law man rather than an attorney would certainly show more intellect.
