Katherine Ann Berman, wife of ESPN broadcaster Chris Berman, was killed in a two-car crash Tuesday in western Connecticut.
The fatal crash happened about 2:15 p.m. on a state road in Woodbury, state police said. Edward Bertulis, 87, also died following in the collision, police said Wednesday morning.
Troopers are investigating the possibility that Bertulis suffered a medical emergency right before Berman's car crashed into the back of his car a state police source told the Hartford Courant.
In a statement about Katherine Bermans death, the president of ESPN called the crash a devastating tragedy and said it was difficult to comprehend.
Chris is beloved by all his ESPN colleagues and for good reason: He has a huge heart and has given so much to so many over the years," John Skipper said. "We know how much his family means to him and all we can do at a moment like this is give him the love and support he will surely need at this hour. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris, Meredith, Doug and the entire family."

Sounds like texting and driving to me...
"...sounds like texting and driving to me..."
Sorry to hear of this.
Condolences to the usual parties.
Don’t like to see this sort of thing.
I thank my God through Jesus Christ that He gave me three-and-a-half years to deal with my wife’s ovarian cancer and at least help to prepare me for her eventual death last April 5th.
but to lose you wife like this is beyond tragic and I can only hope that Chris has a relationship with a loving God to help him get through this.
Otherwise, without God, I do not know how I would have gotten through this far without the love of my life.
The story is odd. If a driver has a medical emergency and then gets rear-ended by someone else, then it sounds like the OTHER driver is the one who actually caused the crash.
Dude....really? A Chris Berman joke?
Right, but why did she rammed into the back of the car...she was distracted by something.
I seriously doubt an 87-year old even knows what texting is...
“...sounds like texting and driving to me...”
They are saying HE may have had a medical emergency in moments prior to the accident.
You both may be right. He had an emergency. She failed to notice.
It sounds like they are trying to lay blame on the guy she rear-ended pretty hard on a state road.
So hard, that she pushed his car off the road and killed him and her car went flying off the road and she got herself killed.
Sounds more like texting and driving to me. I don’t know how you can hit someone that hard on a state road (Maximum speed in CT is 45, but mostly 40MPH).
Even if he was stopped dead in the middle of the road, she should have seen him.
Possible...but very bad things can happen to 87 year olds.Suddenly...unexpectedly.
No sense in guessing what caused this...
Condolences to the Berman family....
That should’ve posted to “all” sorry about that.....
Joking about Berman’s wife dying in a crash? Rather low-class, there.
“They are saying HE may have had a medical emergency in moments prior to the accident.”
To be up front, I can’t think of any medical emergency that would cause her to run into the rear of his car. Even if he slammed on the brakes and locked them up, it is her responsibility to determine the stopping distance and make adjustments. Until we get more info, she is responsible for the deaths. Sad it happened, but the media here, the LA Times, is not giving anything away.

They also stated that she hit his car from behind.
From the article: "State police said that at the time of the crash Katherine Berman was driving a 2003 Lexus SC 430 that was behind Bertulis 2003 Ford Escape X.
The Lexus rear-ended Bertulis' Ford and continued traveling east, veering off the road to the right, police said. The Lexus went down an embankment and overturned in a small body of water, state police said. The Ford also went off the road, striking a utility pole and landing in the middle of the road on its roof."
To me, it indicates she was following too closely and/or not paying attention to traffic.
It’s great to be king, isn’t it?

Yes, RIP Mrs. Berman. I like his NFL work but he should keep away from any golf coverage because he makes everything sound like a football or basketball game. And for God’s sake, play all the golf you want but please never on a televised event like Pebble Beach. Every time there’s a shot of him hitting a golf ball, I have to change the channel.
