U.S. suspends aid to Kenyan health ministry over corruption concerns

The U.S. government has suspended $21 million in direct aid to Kenya's Ministry of Health amid concern over corruption, the embassy said on Tuesday, giving emphasis to an issue that is a growing liability for the government before August elections.

Support for HIV drugs and other health programs outside the ministry would continue, the embassy said, adding that the United States invests more than $650 million on health in Kenya annually.

Last year, Kenya's anti-graft chief told Reuters that a third of its state budget - the equivalent of about $6 billion - was lost to corruption every year.

The government disputed the figure, blaming poor paperwork.

Sounds as though Kenya’s government is much more honest than ours. As of 2015, the last year reported on, the US government reported $6.5 TRILLION missing, simply unaccounted for, with no one fired or jailed for this malfeasance.

The lack of accounting is so egregious that there is no way to audit the agencies to see where the money was spent. If we did this at our jobs, we would be in jail, but not a peep from the tax drones who don’t seem to mind this blatant theft from their bank accounts by government employees.

A Kenyan lawmaker told the nation's Parliament last month (March 2010) that Barack Obama was born in Africa and is therefore "not even a native American."

During debate over the draft of a new Kenyan constitution, James Orengo, the country's minister of lands and a member of parliament for the Ugenya constituency, cited America's election of a Kenyan-born president as an example of what can be accomplished when diverse peoples unite:

"If America was living in a situation where they feared ethnicity and did not see itself as a multiparty state or nation," Orengo posited, "how could a young man born here in Kenya, who is not even a native American, become the president of America?"

Orengo held up the U.S. as a country no longer "living in the past," since Americans elected a Kenyan-born president without regard to "ethnic consideration and objectives."
