Neighbors' Sense of "Super-Safe" Space Shattered
Boston Herald ^ | May 7, 2017 | Jordan Frias

Posted on 05/07/2017 6:47:48 PM PDT by Jim Noble

Rattled residents of a South Boston luxury condominium complex where authorities say two people were murdered before an armed suspect was wounded in a shootout with police say they’re struggling to understand how so much violence could have unfolded in their upscale residential building.

“It’s shocking for a building as nice as this,” said Amanda Ellis, 24, who has lived in the building since it opened in 2009. “It’s a really nice community. There are a lot of families and shared community spaces — it’s just shocking that this happened right above us.”

Harly Hutker, 23, an architect whose parents own a unit in the building, said she’d never expect a double homicide would occur inside the Macallen Building.

“It felt really close to home even though I don’t live here all the time,” she said. “I just feel super safe here. We have a concierge downstairs and it seems like they’re kind of visually screening everybody that comes in.”

Marsha McLean, 37, said the fact that other tenants of the building were killed has been “devastating” for the “tight-knit” community.

“I think people are shocked. Curious and shocked,” she said. “Everybody wants to know really what happened.”

Paul Jackson, a 54-year-old global equity analyst at Pioneer Investments, said he slept through the incident and didn’t believe it when he found out.

“Some friends texted me, which I didn’t really read until this morning because I went to bed around 10 o’clock. ... At first I thought they were playing some prank or something — it couldn’t be serious,” he said. “When I went online I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, I can’t believe it’s actually in my building.’ ”

I'm not posting this for CCW comments, it's more about the magical thinking of new urbanites and gentrifiers. I don't know this building but I know the hood very, very well. Steps from the MBTA Broadway bus and subway station, an easy walk to the Pine Street Inn homeless shelter, steps from a recent horrific kidnapping, rape, murder story. These people live ON the neighborhood, not IN the neighborhood. Their building is like a fortress, like a spaceship landed on Dorchester Avenue and they all live inside it. They are living a fantasy, and her's a case where the street just reached in to their world, and they "can't believe it". My advice: believe it.

They sound like a bunch of soft fruits.

You’re right.

I saw my first non wake dead body in the river while walking under the Verrazano for a walkathon.

I was 10, I think. Walking for my cousin’s illness.

Likely a Mafioso.

Magical thinking is right. Libtards coddle violent criminals and think the crocodiles won’t eat them. As long as it’s always someone else’s family, libtards don’t care how many deadly crimes they enable.

Sounds like they thought their “white privilege” would protect them. Oops!

I’ve always been baffled by the need for some affluent people (who are clearly not forced by financial circumstances) to live close to, if not in, how shall I call it...”Reaver Country”.

1) Southie (officially "South Boston") is an up-and-coming part of the city with good public transit to to the major Boston hospitals.

2) There's serious $$$ to be made by physicians and surgeons at the major Boston hospitals (I worked for one for 25 years).

This couple invited “the street” into their home.

Police report they knew the guy, he was not a stranger.

Lots more to this story, the really horrible details will certainly be censored, so as not to offend “immigrants”.

In some ways this makes me think of how the geniuses in our school system (of 5 high schools) put the International Baccalaureate program in the “urban” HS. So parents are sending their (relatively) innocent high-achieving kids into that pit because it looks good on their transcripts.
I’m sure it goes fine 99% of the time...in a school of hundreds.

These were not American raised snowflakes, but European progressive globalists.

It will be a while before our snowflakes reach this couple’s level.

One of the many symptoms of the insanity caused by the mental disease of liberalism is the inability to deal with reality and/or the truth. Their minds have been eaten away to the point that they just cannot handle it. Instead, they live in a fantasy world, and once that fantasy is broken into by reality, they just completely freak out.....and we’re supposed to co-exist with these morons? I think not.

I think that’s EXACTLY the image the poster was trying to convey.

For those who don’t know, ‘Reavers’ were a group from the sci-fi show ‘Firefly’ several years ago. They were a group of humans who were exposed to an experimental drug designed to control populations. It instead made them violently insane.

One of the major characters in the show described Reavers like this...

“If the Reavers get you, they’ll rape you to death, skin you, then eat you...hopefully in that order.”

Thinking they’re living on Sih-non or Londinium, when they’re really living on the Rim and looking out into the great unknown of “The Black”....

I’ve caught flak from friends and coworkers for living in “boring” suburbia...it totally goes over their heads when I tell them I like the idea of being able to walk around my neighborhood at 0330 if I must.
