Bar owner Paul Hennessey says he wanted to get people talking.
To mark Cinco de Mayo, his Dana Point bar set up an inflatable wall for patrons to climb over and handed out green cards that guaranteed one free drink to those who clambered to the top.
Since then, Hennesseys Tavern has gotten angry phone calls. Yelp reviewers have called the Cinco de Mayo event disgusting, tasteless and racist.

and damn good for business
25 years or so ago in the upscale Buckhead section of Atlanta, there was a great little place called the Texas State Line Barbecue. Great food, cold beer, and if you showed up after 5 wearing a tie, they’d cut off your tie, and they were serious about it, as attested to by all the cut off ties stapled to the walls.
So with the attitude generally established, we have a tale regarding the business next door. The family steakhouse that was there went out of business, and after a short while, a Mexican joint opened up.
Texas State Line immediately installed a barbed-wire fence on that side of the property.
All in fun, and totally in line with their attitude.
If walls are so “useless,” then why doesn’t everyone tear down the walls in front of houses, businesses, etc., everywhere?
Paul Hennessey: From Busboy to Mogul
"...Despite the glitter and glamour of Las Vegas (Where he has four establishments), the South Bay is home to Hennessey. I love all our places, from Manhattan Beach, down through San Diego; they are all in the beach communities," he said. "I just love the beach communities. I think the people who live in the beach communities are a little bit different. They are more casual, more laid back.
"The Hennesseys also support local schools, as well as Little Company of Mary hospital. Jennifer Hennessey, who is in private practice, is a rehab counselor.
I fill em up, the former bartender said with a broad grin. And she dries em out.
