Republican Obamacare replacement bill passes House

After years of debate, the House on Thursday voted to repeal key parts of the Affordable Care Act and replace them with new provisions.

The vote, which President Donald Trump was planning to tout as a big victory, sends the Republican-sponsored bill to gut Obamacare to the Senate for consideration.

If victorious, Republicans will be having a big press conference at the beautiful Rose Garden of the White House immediately after vote! 2:07 PM - 4 May 2017

But winning approval for the bill could be even more difficult in the Senate than it has been in the House, where Republican leaders struggled for nearly two months to wrangle enough votes in their caucus to secure its passage.

The bill passed by a vote of 217 to 213. All 193 Democrats voting opposed the bill; they were joined by 20 Republicans voting "no."

If the Freedom Caucus backed the bill, it is as good as it can possibly be.

Yep, and part of the trick is how much it gets changed in conference.

OK, FReepers — it’s SHOWTIME!

Phone: (202) 224-2541 (Office)

Get on the horn to McConnell’s office and let them know in no uncertain terms that this bill needs to get to Trump’s desk UNMOLESTED. We’ve gotta let them know what we want. God knows the other side is certainly lighting up the lines to say what they DON’T want.

MAKE IT HAPPEN!!

Yeah, I recall arguing with friends the ObamaCare law would be found unconstitutional on process alone.

IRC, ObamaCare originated in the Senate, quid pro quo after quid pro quo was given for votes and there was zero reading of the bill before process and vote.

No one argued this in court, which I thought odd

If the Freedom Caucus backed the bill, it is as good as it can possibly be.

The show I'm listening to has read some of its features, and they do sound good.

The mandate is now an incentive, the mandatory coverage items (single men must have maternity coverage built into their policy) are removed, the mandate for (some or all?) employers to provide coverage goes (may lead to hiring and a return to more than 29 hours for some) and the pre-existing condition folks go into a separate pool (which in theory should lower the premiums for everyone else).

If (a big IF) I understood all of that right, it sounds promising. That remains to be seen. It also remains to be seen whether Yertle the Tertle can close the deal without adding back all the crap that was excised from it.

This is the end of Trump

This is the end of the Republican party. Sad day for America. One of many recently.

I only see one member of the Freedom caucus on there - Biggs I believe. Looks like they all supported it otherwise. Anyone who criticized President Trump for criticizing them want to retake the mantle of criticizing them now?

But it has to pass the Senate now right? Is that going to happen?

Not in its current form. Pre-Existing will roll back to the original language along with medicare. Employer requirements will revert as well as the tax credit.

Your read it here first folks. It won’t get past the senate without, at least, some of these “entitlements” making it back in.
