Republican Obamacare replacement bill passes House

After years of debate, the House on Thursday voted to repeal key parts of the Affordable Care Act and replace them with new provisions.

The vote, which President Donald Trump was planning to tout as a big victory, sends the Republican-sponsored bill to gut Obamacare to the Senate for consideration.

If victorious, Republicans will be having a big press conference at the beautiful Rose Garden of the White House immediately after vote! 2:07 PM - 4 May 2017

But winning approval for the bill could be even more difficult in the Senate than it has been in the House, where Republican leaders struggled for nearly two months to wrangle enough votes in their caucus to secure its passage.

The bill passed by a vote of 217 to 213. All 193 Democrats voting opposed the bill; they were joined by 20 Republicans voting "no."

The interesting part is not the exact Senate vote but what the Conference Committee will do to reconcile the House and Senate versions of this bill. I would love to see a runaway committee take the bill to a completely different destination in conference.

Where can you find which 20 voted no. It’s a good way to tell if it’s a good bill or a bad bill.

"...they were joined by 20 Republicans voting "no."

20 Republicans currently serving their LAST terms.

There are *STILL* enough democrats posing as republicans to continue the "you have to pass the bill in order to read the bill" bullsh*t. We just can't seem to primary them fast enough. The day will come when we'll be looking forward to civil war just to clean ranks at government levels. It's a "Tale of Two Cities" coming soon to a democratic republic near you.

It’s a repeal. Yes, there is a difference between a tax incentive and a mandate.

In Arizona we have tax incentives for solar. I have a mandate to pay my state taxes.

That was fast :)

Some of them voted no for their own district’s needs, or so they said.

I hate congress.

I suspect most of those Republicans are in districts that Clinton won, so they may have helped themselves by voting against the bill. They may have even cut a deal with Ryan to vote “No” once the GOP had enough votes anyway.

Before I jump with accolades I suppose I better read it first to see who got in the ass. I suppose it will be those who have insurance and are happy with it. Seniors will lose, taxpayers pay again and free loaders make out like a bandit.
Another you must pass it before you can read it.
of course maybe all you read it?

Are they supposed to vote based on the needs of their own districts?

I’ve read the reasons my guy voted against it but I think the needs of the country come first in this instance.

I’d rather take a few bucks hit for the good of the country.

But that’s just me.

This is how legislation is supposed to be done. House, Senate, Conference, Vote, go to President.
