Trump: US ‘Needs A Good Shutdown’

President Trump on Tuesday called for a "good shutdown" in September to fix the "mess” in government.

"The reason for the plan negotiated between the Republicans and Democrats is that we need 60 votes in the Senate which are not there! We … either elect more Republican Senators in 2018 or change the rules now to 51%. Our country needs a good "shutdown" in September to fix mess!" he wrote in a series of tweets.

... He goes over Ryan’s head to the public to deliver on what he promised—or his presidency is over.

It is just that stark and just that Manichaean, Trump acts with integrity now or he is finished. His transparent effort by Tweet to have it both ways might appeal to some of his cult followers but a growing minority of conservatives are regaining their powers of discernment and will have none of it.

Obviously, Trump has known and been influenced by Ivanka for a long time. He still turned out to be Conservative, patriotic and the best president at least since Reagan.

The filibuster is redundant in this case.

There aren't enough Republicans in either House of Congress to pass even 10% of Trump's agenda with a simple majority.

Mr.President you are wasting a beautiful opportunity to get your programs underway and you are blowing it. Don’t let the tail wag the dog. By giving in to the Democrats now only emboldens them and will make it much worse in September. Don’t wait, start now. Remember the old saying, “He who hesitates has lost.” Go for it!!

“He needs to save his ammo and he’s already preparing the battlefield.”

You get it. Don’t understand the shortsighted view of some others.
If you wonder why Ted Cruz was somewhat successful in the primaries, I guess we can see why. Lots of folks buy-in but fail to see strategy is required to get an agenda passed. Noise of course has rewards for some.

Stomping up and down doesn’t produce results.

The solution is to end the filibuster now and pass all the bills with a simple majority. The filibuster is archaic.

...

I believe the original intent was to give every representative a chance to let their full views be known. It was never meant to be abused, to shut down the government, or to give the minority more power than it earned at the ballot box.

But he is known to be persuadable by the information given to him on an issue. And between the Priebus/Ryan GOPe crew and the Jared/Ivanka liberal and Democrat team brought in, he is now pretty clearly surrounded primarily by those effectively bending his positions and policies to the left.

The CR is just more evidence of what we have been seeing more broadly.

Morning FRiend. Wrote this on another thread. At the risk of being pedantic, I’ll just copy it here:

President Trump has already shown his hand on his intentions with the budget proposals brought to light.

He is not going to be business as usual. That’s not him. But he can’t take on every battle all at once or he risks losing everything and accomplishing nothing.

Why some folks can’t figure that out here is beyond me. They think the Executive can summon the UniParty and in one action have them come to heel. They have no intention of coming to heel. They intend to make President Trump answer to their call, business as usual.

President Trump had to let them win a hand but he’s looking to win the poker game and go all-in later at a time of his choosing.

September will be a battle royale like nothing we’ve seen in our lifetime. President Trump is going to make it clear who is with him and who’s against him. If you pay attention, you’ll notice it’s Republicans trying to undermine his agenda at every turn.

One man, one fight at the time of his bidding. Stay with it.

How many abortions funded between now and September? How many dead American babies does this ‘strategy’ entail?

Veto the bill, shutdown the government if necessary, until PP funding is removed. Then it would be okay to wait until September to have the fight, but not while the baby mills are funded.

SMH at the people so busy trying to be armchair strategists they overlook the human cost of the policies.

If Trump is a man of his word, and I believe he is, a confrontation is coming
between the DC Elites and voters who will hold Trump accountable.
A shutdown is coming.

IMO, the elephant in the room are the ‘consolidated bills’ instead of separate. OMNIBUS: 10# of sh!t crammed into a 5# sack.

D.C. holds off on getting these through until the final moments just SO they can fill ‘em with graft/bribes to get ‘em passed.

Make ‘em mandatory within the 1st 1/2 of the year and no other bill(s) can be considered until they are out.

So you think stopping some funding for Planned Abortionhood is going to be the singular victory for America? With everything else stopped likely on a permanent basis never seeing an agenda move for America?

Okay, that’s your right. It won’t but your prerogative.

Don’t understand the shortsighted view of some others.

...

They are drama queens. They demand their idea of perfection and exaggerate every perceived fault.

“the CR even says there can be no future funding for the wall.”

Not true.

This is just a 5 month spending bill. I don’t think DHS was ready to start building the wall in the next 5 months anyway. They are still in the planning phase.
