President Trump on Tuesday called for a "good shutdown" in September to fix the "mess” in government.

"The reason for the plan negotiated between the Republicans and Democrats is that we need 60 votes in the Senate which are not there! We … either elect more Republican Senators in 2018 or change the rules now to 51%. Our country needs a good "shutdown" in September to fix mess!" he wrote in a series of tweets.

More than just a shutdown. The tree of liberty needs watering with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Bloody brilliant. He happens to be right too. Now however, is NOT the time to daw the line in the sand.

It’s unfortunate so many can’t see that the showdown should and needs to be in September when an actual budget is drawn up, not over the temporary funding of the government till then.

SMH, this all or nothing crowd isn’t much for strategy.

Heh. Rinos are laughing at Trump now, but when he refuses this type of bill in September and allows the government to “shutdown,” they will wish they had worked with him on this one.

RATS are petrified: no telling what can be done to their precious bureaucracies during a shutdown. Wonder which judge will be the first to order the .gov stay open.

Trump is communicating Big League - He is saying he doesn’t like this either, but today is not the time. In September, will be the 2018 fiscal budget for Potus 45. That is when he goes to war.

A) There is no reason that 60 Senate votes are needed—or to believe the party would deliver any more than they are now with majorities across the board,

B) Trump already threatened a shutdown and to roll over to a Democrat-style CR instead means he will have zero credibility or will for such a shutdown 5 months from now.

Either he gets rid of Jared, Ivanka, Priebus and their uniparty pals as WH staffers, and he goes over Ryan’s head to the public to deliver on what he promised—or his presidency is over.

Interesting; is it flailing or is it preview of a surprise?

Aaaargh. The government does NOT shut down. Wish it did. In any case, until Trump gets serious about doing away with baseline budgeting, this is a lotta sound and fury signifying jack spit.

The solution is to end the filibuster now and pass all the bills with a simple majority. The filibuster is archaic.

Shutdowns always keep employees who perform ““essential government services”. I’d like to call for a 4 year shutdown where the government only provides essential services. Why do pay for non-essential services when we owe $20 trillion in the first place?

And no backpay when the shutdown is over. Sorry for those employees, but if you aren’t performing an “essential government service” it’s time to find another job.

Can you explain how a shutdown over the actual budget would be a better fight than over the interim funding now? I don’t see the advantage.

The President is 100% right.

Let’s have a “shut-down” where we send all “non-essential” employees home — without pay

and

See how much smaller the deficit gets

and

Re-structure government agencies and department so those “non-essential” jobs are eliminated.

and

Drive Democrats crazy!

IMHO, that would be a “three-fer”.

Be it fabricated of not, with a potential for nuclear war on the horizon, an ongoing war throughout the middle east where American’s are involved, I suggest shutting down the government might not be the best plan but then, when IS a good time? Draining the swamp needs to continue no matter what.

I wonder if he’s been publicly pulling a brier patch with the shutdown with congress, fooling them into thinking he’s terrified of one all this time to observe whom to primary.
