The fate of Obamacare repeal/replace Part II isn't quite sealed yet but the latest nose count among Republicans in Congress holds out very little hope that this current iteration of Obamacare reform will meet the same end as the first one.
The Hill is reporting that at least 21 Republicans have indicated they are a "no vote" for the current legislation. Since 23 negative votes would scuttle the bill - unless some Democrats could be convinced to vote for it - it doesn't appear that Speaker Ryan is any more inclined to bring this version of Obamacare repeal to the floor than he was the last one.
Its unclear how dozens of other Republicans would vote this time, but the number of Republicans publicly opposed or leaning against the bill is enough to raise doubts about whether the House would pass it in its current form.
Twenty-three GOP defections would be enough to kill House Republicans ObamaCare repeal-and-replacement plan, assuming every House Democrat votes against it.
Centrists opposed to the new bill are largely echoing Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.), who said the negotiations between Meadows and MacArthur only exacerbated his earlier problems with the bill.
The legislation would allow states to opt out of some of ObamaCares requirements and could result in people losing their current health coverage or facing much higher premiums. Dent, in an interview on MSNBCs Morning Joe on Thursday, said he worried that people with pre-existing health conditions might be left without insurance because of the changes, something supporters of the bill have fiercely denied.
Many members of the centrist Tuesday Group members complained that the MacArthur-Meadows amendment pushed the bill too far to the right, and they privately griped that MacArthur had shifted blame for the stalled healthcare effort from conservatives to centrists.

Eight years to get ready for this moment. Fools all.
It is time for the FBI files to come out and private meetings to be held.
Put up a list of all the names....pick an opponent and primary every damn one of them. If they manage to win anyway, ensure their districts get zero funding.
Dear Centrists,
The conservatives are in safe districts, you are not. If you are going to be democrat lite, just convert already.
Oh, and take your Tuesday group and shove it.
Bring it to a vote and let’s see where each Congressman or woman stands, so they can deal with the consequences come 2018.
Trump needs to issue a blanket exemption from 0bamacare to everyone who ask.
The GOP does not want to even rearrange Obamacare, much less repeal it.
Whether they are in the Centrist group or the freedom caucus, at some point the party has to get together and pass legislation otherwise they are going to lose the Congress.
With each passing day I'm getting more convinced that this is likely to be the way ObamaCare meets its inevitable and ignominious end.
The votes aren’t there.
They weren’t there last time either and Trump blamed conservatives when in fact it was the moderates wo signaled they weren’t going to support it.
And it’s the same moderates again who are now openly stating this turd sandwich is still no good. And they’re right. They should refuse to support this garbage.
And even though the conservative HFC has said this week that they WILL vote for this junk - they will still get the blame (watch and see) for it’s failure to be voted on.
The problem is that Americans don't want to pay the real cost of their own medical care -- through direct payments, taxes, or any other mechanism ... so they're big fans of any Federal law that pushes these costs onto someone else.
Welcome to the world of delusion -- American style.
How quickly we forget that Republican GOPe members in congress are the problem, not the solution. They work hand-in-hand with Democrats to stymie any conservative agenda.
Wrong. It will be passed next week.
The RINOs are squishes, and they’ll squish for this. It will be fun to watch them fight over who is ‘allowed’ to vote no
Mainly though, it will pass because Trump will stop the illegal billion dollar/month unappropriated subsidies to Obamacare if they don’t pass it.
That would force the RINOs to vote to fund the Obamacare subsidy- ruining their re-election chances.
It’s not much of a bill, but it does give a possibility of one state ending Obamacare for the whole nation.
It’s like abortion to women. Unlimited sex with no consequences. Men don’t help much in that regard.
Republicans are no more dedicated to governance by constitutional means and Democrats are. They are basically for occasionally slowing the growth of government but once it has grown they are just as interested in preserving big government that already exists as Democrats are.
If the party was actually for Limited Government they would be useful, asit is they simply suck less.
This will not end well for the Republicans!
And as a result their costs are higher!
Those who support the current system feel they are safe in their seats so they can thumb their nose at any change. This is simply because the takers now have over run the payers. There is virtually no argument that is going to change that menu. What they may understand is what used to be called power politics. That is, you don’t support this bill, expect to see no money for your district for anything and also expect to see you chairing the committee on unisex bathrooms in the capitol. But then again, Ryno has no real desire to change the law in the first place, he has been playing Trump and the conservatives on the issue of O care for months. Everyone in the room is the boogie man but not him, if you listen to his rhetoric. Funny how the speaker and leader of his party in the house says nothing but only has his henchmen issue PRs by anonymous sources.
The art of the deal, you have to walk away when the deal is so against your key concepts you cannot abide by agreeing. Trumps way of walking away would be to just veto the stop gap measure and point out his party could not bring in the deal. Were I he I would do that in a televised PR wherein he calls out individual bums.
