The German lower house of parliament approved on Thursday a draft law that would prohibit civil servants, soldiers and judges from wearing a full face veil at work, Reuters reported.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel had expressed support in December for a ban on burqas wherever legally possible.
The law must now be approved by the upper house, the Bundesrat.
We should make clear and impart our values and where the boundaries of our tolerance towards other cultures lie, German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said about the move. The draft law we have agreed on makes an important contribution to that.

Alice Weidel of Germany’s anti-immigration party
Not sure what to think about this.
What’s the sentiment about it o’er there across the pond, B_F?
She doesn’t look like a happy camper, sort of cruel really.
I’ll say most people are willing to help legitimate war refugees up to a point. Some of that might have to do with the war history of Germany.
Like someone stated in this article - you can’t ban everything you don’t like.
Looks like the gurly men of Europe are about to be eaten by female spiders.
Who cares whether she is a lesbian? She has her political socks screwed on right. She may actually end up saving her country.
Enough Schadenfreude about a woman who is trying to defeat the demographic invasion of her country.
Germans don’t wear veils and burkas. Just saying...
I am not a German but one thing is for sure, I would not be supporting a party with a Lesbian Leader with two children.
Something about core values.
Be careful, you could get a lickin’ !
I would not vote for Ellen DeGeneres if she led a “Build The Wall Party” either.
I think the AfD problem is that there’s a very small group of competent players at the national level, who can stand and debate at the level required. Weidel is one of the few....so I think the consensus of the top level of AfD is find someone....anyone...who can appear in public and give a persuasive argument for their cause.
Presently, I’d also say that AfD has peaked out. A year ago for the national election (slated for September), I would have said AfD could get 15-to-17 percent of the national vote. Presently, they will be lucky to get ten-percent.
Since the immigration flow has slowed back down (in the 300,000 per year level)...it’s not topic number one. I will admit...crime has popped up and is discussed almost nightly now....but all of the political parties are focused on hiring more cops, and that makes the Germans think it’ll fix the problem.
A lesbian leader is not so surprising considering Islam on the face of it is seen as not very homosexual friendly.
She could push people on the Right out of politics entirely and thus make AfD a Leftist aligned party. I don’t think that is what you want though.
I might be old fashioned but a woman carries herself and dresses as a man to a debate - tells me her core ideas are crazy.
“Germanys Far-Right AfD Elects Lesbian Leader”
Jeeze, and she doesn’t even try to hide it. You’d think they could scour all of Bavaria, Saxony, and whatever other states they have there and at least find a normal person to be their leader.
