US murders concentrated in 5 percent of counties

The majority of murders in the U.S. occur in only a small percentage of counties across the country.

The Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) said in a new report that there is a “geographical concentration” of murders, with 68 percent of killings occurring in just 5 percent of the nation’s counties. The homicides also tend to be concentrated to relatively small pockets of those counties, the report said.

Also, proof of the experiment where two rats were placed in a cage and the floor was electrified. Not to hurt but annoy. Well after a while the rats turned their frustrations on each other.

A lot of rural counties that have higher murder rates have reservations in them.

The rural form of ghetto.

“While many factors explain these concentrated murders, it is also striking that the counties with zero murders are the counties with by far the highest gun ownership rates,” Lott said.

O how any of those counties are gang infested? I know Pittsburgh has all the “name brand” gangs down there constantly fighting each other...Detroit has it’s black violence and muslims.....

It wold be interesting in seeing a map without the gangs considered...

What do they have in common, mostly black/hispanic/dem controlled.

High gun control. High Poverty/welfare rates/Single parent, high drug/gang infested neighborhoods. BAD SCHOOLS. I noticed no mention of Memphis which is only a little over 60K in population had 228 murders in 2016. Compared to the Shelby County which had 2 maybe 3. Same county, different governments. More armed CCW citizens.

Biggest factor is DEM CONTROLLED!

Some bad news though:
Looking at the historical data, the CPRC said that murders were even more geographically concentrated in decades past. On average, 73 percent of counties in any given year had zero murders from 1977 to 2000.

Translation: It's getting harder to avoid the sickness of Modern American Dysfunction. When the plagues of Latino gangs arrive in your rural county, followed by the plague of painkiller, pills and heroin dealing then violence will also be on the menu soon.

Hold on. 68% of the murders happen in 5% of the counties? And what percent of the population is in those counties? 65%? Not sure this is a story.

> They keep us guessing as to what correlations exist between murders and the unexplained factors.

They plan to study that. But first they need to study why so many more women than men get pregnant.

Did you know global warming is worse than ever?

SQUIRRELS!!!!!!!

What were we talking about? It doesn’t matter. Guns are bad.

(Sorry if that didn’t make sense but it’s my homework assignment for journalism class. I think I’m getting a A and a job at NYT.)

We need to.know the murder rate in these places. It’s no surprise that the raw numbers show concentration in big cities.

But, what is the rate of murder? Are you more likely to get murdered in Chicago or Billings? But what about on the Gold Coast of Chicago vs. the South Side???

Is the murder rate on the upper west side of Manhattan higher than in Zanesville??

Yep some unanswered questions here.

None of the factors that you guys are stating have to do with the crimes. Drugs and gangs are the largest causes. A black population is common as well. But its hard to do this on a county wide basis. Because a large concentration of high risk can be in a county like Cook in Chicago which includes the whole city plus a few wealthy suburbs. While New York City is separated. So, It consists of 5 counties and no suburbs. Only two of the counties have high gang and drug issues.

If you could bring it down to the zip code level you would see the gang and drug neighborhoods. Some will be black and others would be hispanic. But they would all have gangs and drugs.

It shows that broad-based efforts at “gun control” have little to do with where concentrated effort on the problem needs to be applied.
