Ivanka Trump: Resettling Syrian Refugees In US Should Be ‘Part Of The Discussion’
The Daily Caller ^ | 04/26/17 | KAITLAN COLLINS

Ivanka Trump said resettling Syrian refugees in the United States should be “part of the discussion.”

“I think there is a global humanitarian crisis that’s happening,” Ivanka — who serves as a special assistant to her father — said during an interview with the “Today” show. “And we have to come together and we have to solve it.”

When asked if that means letting Syrian refugees into the United States, Ivanka said, “That has to be part of the discussion, but that’s not going to be enough in and of itself.”

Donald Trump signed an executive order in March that would require the Department of Homeland Security to review its screening procedures while suspending the refugee admissions program for 120 days. The order temporarily bars the citizens of Sudan, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia and Yemen from entering the United States for 90 days, but it did not include the blanket ban on Syrian refugees like his first version of the order did.

While I completely disagree with Ivanka, I do not think a brusque tone is called for. In her comments, she really gives us an opening for a very frank, and very kind spirited discussion of what is really involved. There are a lot of human tragedies-whether one sees the human experience as comedy, tragedy or adventure, or whatever. How do we best address the issue raised?

There are a variety of reasons, not to take in these refugees. There are also a great many protections that should be considered before we take in anyone. The multi-generational interests, purpose--call it "intention"-- of America's Founders is not something of so little value as to be ignored for a single foreign generation's problem. Whatever the humanitarian project Ivanka advocates, it cannot rationally be viewed in a vacuum.

Ivanka's sentiments offer an opportunity for a fuller discussion; a fuller discussion that gives us a chance to make points--to gain new supporters, by showing a far deeper understanding of the full context of the issue, than those who rail against us.

Let us with courtesy & respect for the fact that Ivanka is Donald Trump's well loved daughter, engage in the necessary discussion.

Incidentally, my analysis of the complex of factors, points me to oppose almost any immigration not absolutely consistent with our long neglected heritage. I am not a monster; only one who has sworn to uphold the stated purpose of our Constitution. I do not believe that very many Syrian refugees could even discuss that purpose with the necessary level of understanding.

Promises, promises: As we approach 100 days, Trump has dropped ball on refugee program reform

https://refugeeresettlementwatch.wordpress.com/2017/04/25/promises-promises-as-we-approach-100-days-trump-has-dropped-ball-on-refugee-program-reform/

With about a week to go until his administration reaches the 100-day mark, President Trump’s campaign promises to halt Syrian refugee resettlement and tighten up the refugee vetting process remain largely unfulfilled.

Hate to say it, but Obama is directly responsible for the messes in Egypt, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Iraq , Afghanistan

We probably should bring in a few thousand legit Syrian refugees who have aided Americans in the past and who could become productive residents

These people should be vetted by the US military people they have served with

We dot need ex Jihadi nor do we need tens of thousands of Muslim military age men who are UN NGO vetted fake “ refugees”

If Donald Trump wants to lose the support of his base and go down in a humiliating Mondale like loss in 2020 and be recorded in history as an embarrassing failure, he needs to keep capitulating to Paul Ryan and taking the advice of his liberal daughter and son in law. They’ll make it happen for him.

Well Gunga Din

You know what they say

She pisses me off

But she’s far too lovely to hate

I’d drink her bath water but I wish she would just go back to being a mommy and take Frisch Kush with her

Not if they are Muslim. Islam is incompatible with the foundation of Western Civilization. We either keep our freedoms, or we allow Islam.

Exactly. Saw a video the other day where a Saudi Imam type was saying, "The reason we don't allow Christianity in Saudi Arabia is because it's incompatible with Islam." Well, duh!

I expect DJT to have a public comment on his daughter’s talking points.

Yes....I think all recognize Ivanka is a confident women...but for her to say she isn’t yet familiar with what her role is, and yet go on a diplomatic mission speaks volumes that she should not have been there nor speaking. And frankly she shouldn’t be sitting in on all these meetings either IMO at least until her role has been defined sufficient to answer it when asked.

She just needs to step way back for a time and determine where it is she will “serve” the President....instead of trying to make a space for the presidents daughter.....

Jarad I have no issues with....he’s been appointed as a Senior Advisor with other responsibilities as well and I have not seen any indications he’s doing more than supporting Trumps agenda..he knows where the buck stops. Ivanka..not so much.

With all the lies, misrepresentation, etc the globe is doing to/with DJT, there is absolutely no room for ambiguity until they understand the US’ positions.

I disagree....with your comment..” her quote doesn’t say anything at variance with the president’s most strongly stated policies.”......

The perception that Ivanka has given people, and stated as much by her, is she is a feminist and activist...which she certainly has chosen for herself....but this does play into her political statements if you're familiar with her previous interviews and speeches. Though Ivanka says she would not oppose anything her "father" says....what she has spoken does indicate she has her own political agenda and desire for power.

This would not be such an issue for me were she speaking out from her position 'in her company'......but she is not there, she IS working in the West Wing and therefore is in the service to the President..not her father....nor to advance her own causes independently of his nor as a diplomat on foreign soil she has not been appointed to......

Additionally....On foreign soil she states that "The US is the only Nation which does not support paid leave for women"...that is a policy issue...which comes at a cost to taxpayers....she should not be speaking of such without the authority to do so.

Somebody has given her the talk about how much money is in this for various globalists, and possibly promised her a share of it if she gets on board.
