Trump to pull feds out of K-12 education
The Washington Times ^ | 04/26/2017 | S. A. Miller

President Trump will sign an executive order Wednesday to start pulling the federal government out of K-12 education, following through on a campaign promise to return schools to state and local control.

The order, dubbed the “Education Federalism Executive Order,” will launch a 300-day review of Obama-era regulations and guidance for school districts and direct Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to modify or repeal measures deemed an overreach by the federal government, according to a senior administration official

“With this executive order, President Trump has reaffirmed his commitment to getting the federal government out of the way and returning control over education back where it belongs at the state and local level,” said the officials, who briefed reporters on background in advance of the signing ceremony later Wednesday.

Echoing Mr. Trump’s views on education, the official stressed that since the founding of the U.S., schools were intended to be under state control, but the federal government has increasingly usurped that authority.

After the Feds pull out will the patriotic states take advantage of the vacuum to redesign their curicullum to really teach the 3Rs, the Constitution, real history, and American civics?

I am betting the Lyin’ Ryan/McLame/Mittens GOPe wing of the Republican Party will fight this tooth and nail.

That’s why vouchers are such a powerful tool. No guaranteed State $, earn them or the parents vote with their feet.

Next move, disbanding Dept. of Education? I hope so.

I don't think he has the guts to do it. Maybe he'll prove me wrong ...

“That is “pulling out”? Why not today? It’s pretty simple. Close the doors and send everyone home?”

Because life is not simple and we are a nation of laws.

“I would submit that the problems with public education don’t always originate at the federal level”.

I would guestimate that 90% of the problems in education start with the parent. The rest is mostly from administrative bloat, and union corruption. Most of my freinds’ kids can read at a second grade level and do math problems before they get anywhere near kindergarten

““and we are a nation of laws.” like illegal immigration control and illegal sanctuary cities? Bwaaahhhh! When does our side get to play?”

You really need to get away from the keyboard more.

I’m of a mind to just give everyone an SAT-like test when they turn 16 or 18 and let the score show what kind of student they’ve been. A minimum score in each area (math, English, civics, science) for federal graduation endorsement requirement, tested on real knowledge, no school requirement, just pass the darn test.

I love it but wonder if states and cities will increase our property taxes like crazy over this? I sure hope not but I don’t put anything past them.
