Immigration: By threatening to shut down the government, Democrats got President Trump to back off his demand for money to start building the border wall this year. But so what? Illegal crossings are already way down thanks to Trump's other actions. And Democrats came off looking like out-of-touch hypocrites.
Trump had wanted Congress to include $1.4 billion in the spending bill it has to hurry through to keep the government from shutting down for border wall construction. As CNS News points out, that's less money than the Treasury receives in a given four hours.
Nevertheless, Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi pledged to block the entire spending bill if it included any such funds, with Schumer calling it a "poison pill" that will end up "shutting down the government and delivering a severe blow to our economy."
Strangely, Schumer's shutdown threat wasn't met with the usual derision that Democrats and the press heap on Republicans whenever they threaten a government shutdown over a matter of principal.
We seem to recall that it was Schumer himself who took to the floor in 2013 to blast Sen. Ted Cruz for threatening to shut down the government if Congress didn't block ObamaCare from going into effect.

The Democrats’ win is not “hollow.” They won. Trump backed down. Nor is it “hypocritical.” They oppose effective border control and favor open immigration. The only think hypocritical is the media double standard on government shutdowns, which has utterly cowed the Republicans.

But he won nothing. The wall/fence/barrier will come.
The Democrats have not been winning for a while now. Wouldn’t want to be in their position. And yes, the wall will get built. People underestimate Trump at their peril.
We own the White House and the Capitol yet:
We have lost a temporary cessation of refugees from some Muslim lands.
We have lost on repeal and reform of Obamacare.
We have lost on funding the wall.
We have lost control of the budget process and left it hostage to Senator Schumer.
We have lost the power to compel sanctuary cities to obey the law by stripping them of federal funding.
Thirty dimension chess, don’tchaknow...
He should just redirect spending like Obama did.
Now the UN says we can’t repeal ObamaCare and an Obama judge says we can’t deny cities Federal funds over immigration.
Absolutely tired of losing at this point and super disappointed in Trump so far for giving up so easily on things. I’m beginning to think the guy totally bamboozled us in a lot of areas - basically just told us what we “deplorables” wanted to hear (thanks, Steve Bannon..)
Really great summary.
As to compelling sanctuary cities to comply - forget the funding angle. Start arresting state and local government leaders based on violation of existing law.
Sounds like a Ryan and McConnell failure.
My thoughts exactly. Glad we lost on healthcare it was a bad bill. when the AMA cries uncle, no wait.. doctors got a carve out. It’s just the working class, who is too busy proving for their families and at least 50% of the permanent vacation class to be out on the streets..
Repeal every word, or keep it and let them own it. No one is out their beating the drum for the serious problem dems caused without a single R vote. Wonder why not? It’s like, they don’t want to win.

I posted it a year and a half ago. If Trump wants to have a successful presidency he is going to have to be a tyrant. If he does not start taking enemy scalps and hanging them on the White House Fence he ain’t gonna amount to much.
So disappointing.
oh and *SSHOLE ryan is still the big helper on the hill with Judas as chief of staff...can’t write a better tragedy story ending!
why is is disappointing?
the money for the wall is coming from Mexico
Amazing how we own all three branches and house and senate... still NADA!!
“We have lost the power to compel sanctuary cities to obey the law by stripping them of federal funding.”
Where did you get this one? There was a judge that issued an order that blocked an EO that didn’t exist. How can anybody block something that doesn’t exist. The ruling has no effect since there is nothing to enforce. If Trump stopped funding how will the judge reverse that? How would he enforce a ruling that nobody broke and just who would do it?
