One obvious question is: who owns that Alt key?
There are lots of variations.
We already have to deal with gross misnomers. The “liberals” that are hated by “conservatives” tend to be illiberal. They do not put their own skin in the game, but want to put everybody else’s skin in it. That isn’t even liberal any more. Using the term “liberal” in opprobrium tends to drive genuine liberal out of the consideration.
I offer you this question: what if Richard Spencer IS the “evil left”?
If you read his remarks, you can see he doesn’t believe in God-given human dignity. He rejects the very foundation of American political philosophy, which is Natural Law: the truth that our rights are not given us by the State but are inherent in our nature as human beings, the gift of our Creator.
He believes everything comes from the racial collective. Change the melanin levels slightly and he could be La Raza.

The morons on the left and the so-called right use Richard Spencer as the new David Duke. No one would have heard of Richard Spencer if it wasn’t for the NeverTrumpers and MSM giving this clown so much bandwidth and attention.
And of course, the NeverTrumpers and the MSM will pretend that Spencer is the leader of the so-called alt-right. Not even close. The guy has 58K followers on Twitter. Compare that to someone like InfoWars Paul Joseph Watson, who has 570K followers and whose youtube videos get hundreds of thousands of views.
Let me ask you this. Why does the Left hate him so? Why is your fire concentrated on a Trump supporter instead of Anti-Fa and the out of control Left? Of the endless of the Left that we need to attack — judges who rescind presidential orders, masked protesters at Berkeley attacking conservatives with a bicycle lock, the pseudo-science marchers this week, the person you choose to attack, even if not a Christian, is still a Trump supporter? What the hell is wrong with you?

Richard Spencer, like many of his Nazi/racist fellow travelers, is very possibly on a federal payroll.
There is nothing Christian, conservative or patriotic about racial/ethnic prejudice. national socialism is SOCIALISM.
The Trump support looks a lot like a false flag in this case.

He is to “conservative” what antimatter is to matter. He lives parasitically by attaching himself to Trump. I am trying to detach him.

Front Page Mag published this article per who invented the term “alt right” and it certainly isn’t Spencer or some of the other names tossed out there and Paul Gottfried likely is nothing like those mentioned above.

But almost no one is going to give him credit and even if they did, alt-right seems to have come to mean other things nowadays.
The Left didn’t invent him. He is who he is. The Alt-Right is right now fighting the Liberals and suppression of speech more effectively than the “Benedictine” way of withdrawing (Lifesite news, where the article you quoted came from, seems to be a bunch of Catholics considering how much to withdraw from society).
Look at the current pope and his climate change activism. Catholics are more to be distrusted at this time in history. The Alt-Right, I’m thankful for them for most of their activism.

I agree. It’s much to be regretted, but the term alt-right is been hollowed out, filled with excrement, and hurled back at us. Do I want to jump up and catch that can of excrement? No, when it hits the ground and stops rolling, I want to bury it and then fumigate the place.
