Border Wall: President Trump just had his bluff called — again
Washington Post ^ | 04/25/2017 | Aaron Blake

For the second time in two major legislative battles, the Trump White House has issued an ultimatum — only to back down.

In the health care debate, the president was going to force a House vote on the package and dare skeptical Republicans to vote against replacing Obamacare, before abandoning that plan in the face of defeat.

And now, in the government funding debate, he's backing off his previous demand that Congress approve funding for his border wall. As The Washington Post's Philip Rucker, Robert Costa and David Weigel report:

But with a Friday deadline looming to pass a new spending bill, the Trump administration projected confidence that a shutdown would be avoided. In the face of fierce Democratic opposition to funding the wall’s construction, White House officials signaled Monday that the president may be open to an agreement that includes money for border security if not specifically for a wall, with an emphasis on technology and border agents rather than a structure.

Trump showed even more flexibility Monday afternoon, telling conservative journalists in a private meeting that he was open to delaying funding for wall construction until September, a White House official confirmed.

The wall, of course, was the biggest applause line for Trump throughout his campaign — often taking the form of a call-and-response with his approving crowds. And given how divisive it is, inserting it into must-pass legislation like a government funding bill seemed to be the best way to get what Trump wants.

That's what the White House tried. Office of Management and Budget Chairman Mick Mulvaney said last week that any government-funding bill must include funding for the border wall. Throughout the weekend, top White House aides including Mulvaney suggested Trump might veto a spending bill that doesn't fund his border wall.

He’s going to let the dims kill themselves with a thousand cuts . . . Now every act of terrorism can be laid at their feet for refusing to allow a border wall.

All I care about in the first 100 days is that Gorsuch has taken his seat....and Schumer absolutely failed in his struggle to be the big boss of the party.

The Republicans just elected Jon Ossoff to Congress. There is no way there will be a decent GOP turnout after this betrayal.

Seems like every time everyone decides that he is losing or has lost, he ends up making the deal. The last 100 days have been, as far as I am concerned, terrific.

He is meeting with foreign leaders, right and left. Linda and Juan make noise and hot air, so he takes them to dinner and afterward they sing a different tune.

Go figure!!

“Leftists sure have been doing a lot of Winning! lately.

Yeah, that’s totally what’s been happening.

Oddly enough, troll, we find 95% are happy with their vote, 3% of Hillary’s voters wished they voted for him, and his approval ratings have gone up.

And those of us who aren’t idiots actually know all of the accomplishments that have been coming out of the WH.

So which site sends you here to post that garbage?

I wouldn’t say every topic, but on some of the big ones, yeah. The wall will take time. This sanctuary city nonsense, however, should not be going on. These judges need to be reprimanded severely. The USA is a sovereign nation and it’s their duty to protect and defend it, and its laws.

Are you showing those balls by getting on them to help move his agenda along?

Lol. Yeah, THAT'S gonna help. Face it:

1. The wall will not be built.

2. Clinton will in fact NOT be locked up.

3. Obunghole care will NOT be repealed.

4. May our chains rest lightly.

No, It won’t. Trump looks like a paper tiger again l am afraid and he cannot hide behind a 4-4 SC on this capitulation. He needed to take an unshakable stand on this one. The wall was a big reason he was elected at this point he looks weak. I hate saying it but he does.

There is no schedule here and there are many ways to “skin a cat” as my grandma used to say. I would also add that Donald knows them all.

Having lived in DC all my life, I’m well aware of the Washington Post Double Speak for the DNC,

The Wall has already been built even without brick being laid. Talk to the People and the Border Agents along the Southern Board, crossing are down over 80%, many illegals have self deported since Trump entered office, no more catch and release or midnight small town dumps of illegals.

Yeah Trump’s really losing on this issue!

I have no doubt the wall will be built, but it may not be fast enough for some people.

How it will be funded is a nonissue for me, considering it’s only going to cost $1 billion out of a $3 trillion budget.

By the way, I recently learned that on October 26, 2006, U.S. President George W. Bush signed the Secure Fence Act of 2006 into law stating, “This bill will help protect the American people. This bill will make our borders more secure. It is an important step toward immigration reform.”

The bill was introduced on Sep. 13, 2006 by Peter T. King (R-NY). In the House of Representatives, the Fence Act passed 283–138 on September 14, 2006. On September 29, 2006 – the Fence Act passed in the Senate 80–19.

It was supported by Chuck Schumer, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton at the time.

The law is still on the books, but of course, the fence was never built.

Trump has done a fantastic job with Executive Orders
and Gorsuch.

However, he is allowing himself to be jerked around by congress.

It’s time he starts playing hardball with the DC Elites, if he plans
to keep his promises.

That’s probably why the WP and others write stories like this. They are attempting to demoralize us and marginalize Trump.

Oh please, spare me the dramatic chipmunk, fainting couch act, Shakespeare.

Sorry that 4 months in every campaign promise hasn’t been filled.

Most people that aren’t stupid weren’t expecting them to.

Obama didn’t have to deal with people this utterly moronic in his first 100 days. God knows we should export you paper spine types to that party and maybe they can put up with your nonsense.
