BREAKING NEWS: French Far-right Presidential Candidate Marine Le Pen Steps Down as Head of National Front in Bid to Woo Moderate Voters

o The Front National leader quit as she made it to the second round of voting
o She will face off against centrist Emmanuel Macron in the final vote on May 7
o President Hollande told voters Le Pen would ruin the economy if she is elected

French far-right presidential hopeful Marine Le Pen has announced that she is temporarily stepping down as her party's leader.

The Front National leader revealed she would be quitting her role in her party to focus on the upcoming Presidential election.

Monday's move appears to be a way for Le Pen to embrace a wide range of potential voters ahead of the May 7 runoff between herself and Emmanuel Macron, the independent centrist who came in first in Sunday's first round.

What throws me is that in Britain, the party leader is it’s presidential candidate.

In France it seems you step down as leader to run.

I’m in the dark on this as well.

I truly believe Le Pen and Trump will be the only world leaders to fight Radical Islam in a meaningful way! God bless them both!

Not that big of a deal, I’m thinking. Let’s imagine that Reince Priebus was running for POTUS and got the nomination. Seems fairly reasonable to me that he would have resigned as GOP chair to do the full time candidate thing for the general election. They run things a little different in Europe, but this is not as important as it would be in a Parliamentary system like they have in Britain.

Macron left the socialist party to form En Marche, after being Hollande’s economic minister. Le Pen is simply jettisoning her party baggage also.

I really don’t get French politics, lol.

Neither do I. How does socialist Le Pen get called "Far Right"?

And Macron ... the guy who wants capitalistic reforms -- slashing taxes and spending; who is actually calling France's 35-hour work week into question -- is left of center. I don't get it.

Emmanuel Macron, the independent centrist...

I haven't paid very close attention to this election, other than to root for Marine Le Pen, but from what I have seen/heard, they didn't have any "independent centrists" in this election!!

I mean, is this guy a "centrist" like the MSM tried to paint Clinton as a "centrist"?!?
