Dems say Trump can avert shutdown risk if he relents on wall

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump could avert the risk of a government shutdown next weekend by stepping back from his demand that lawmakers fund his promised border wall with Mexico in a must-pass spending bill, Congress’ two top Democrats said Monday.

“If the president stepped out of it, we could get a budget done by Friday,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Monday in a conference call with reporters, referring to Democratic and Republican budget negotiators.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., agreed. She said that while Trump had promised during his campaign to build the barrier, “He did not promise that he would take food out of the mouths of babies” and cut programs for seniors, education and the environment to pay for it. She called the wall an “immoral, ineffective, unwise proposal.”

How about shutdown the government, have Trump cut useless agencies while they are posturing, and finaly they relent on funding for the wall so he gets that too?

Shutdown ALL non-essential government activities for the next four years, as far as I’m concerned. That is even a better deal than Trump was looking for.

I second that!

It is the Senate’s non-Constitutional “fillibuster rule” that gives the Democrats their apparent “power” to obstruct.

IMHO, it is time to “nuke” that non-Constituional rule — since that rule never contemplated that Senators would be SO easily bought by special interest money.

WHAT’S TRULY DERANGED is that we have a majority yet his budget won’t pass with the wall in it.

Pull the plug on the bureaucrats. Shut it down. The amount of GOOD that can come from this is almost as large as the good that will come from locking up the southern border like a vault.

The liberals are apoplectic that the neverending stream of illegal voters and those who would fund their entire lives off of our welfare rolls. Let ‘em watch as their entire globalist system gets choked off.

SO. MUCH. WINNING!!

Be sure to pull out those Barry-cades when the government closes. And be sure that the press reports that it is all because of the Party of No Democrats.

I think patriots have long been willing and able to pay for the Wall on their own. Authorize certain companies to sell engraved bricks which will go into the wall to defray costs and then make donations to the Wall tax deductible.

Schumer is a snake and he probably has a very unfair budget deal even without the Wall spending but if the Wall spending is truly the only obstacle, call his bluff then announce the plan to privately finance the Wall, the same way the libs should be privately financing public broadcasting.

Shut it all down. What difference does it really make? The only thing I care about is defense and security which is truly the only good Constitutional use of Fedgov. Even that is full of waste and abuse. Demrats can just FOAD.

Dems seem to be assuming that Trump views a shutdown as a risk; a fact not in evidence.
