FBI Director James Comey reportedly did not trust former Attorney General Loretta Lynch and other senior officials at the Justice Department, speculating they might provide Hillary Clinton some political cover over her email scandal during the presidential election.
Comeys so-called go-it-alone strategy in the Clinton investigation emerged from suspicions that Lynch and other Justice Department officials might look to down play the email probe, The New York Times reported Saturday.
Comeys suspicions may have been confirmed in a 2015 meeting when Lynch reportedly told him to use the word matter instead of investigation when publicly discussing the probe. According to the Times, Lynch said that using the world investigation would raise other questions and argued that the department should maintain its policy of not confirming whether an investigation was ongoing.

Interesting news.
It tells us much about our body politic that the left blames Comey for trying to do his job. The right is angry at him for not doing his job. There appears to be little anger directed towards her when she is the one who willfully violated the law and caused the mess in the first place?
They did the same thing to Ken Starr over the Billy Jeff investigation.
That is not to say some criticism is unwarranted on both sides, but the narrative always evolves away from the Clinton brand and sits squarely on the shoulders of those appointed to investigate. Perhaps the American people are far smarter than the media and elites.....
Kabuki.....Lynch helped the bank Comey was working for out of money laundering charges. They are pals.
Such BS. They are thick as thieves.
Beware whenever liberals say “call it something else”.
Sure he did. Surrrrrrre he did.
Yeah, that made me scratch my head, too. He was once part of The Clinton Foundation, no? And Bank of America?
You're a news agency, ain'tcha, Fox? Do your own damn investigating.
He didn’t trust Lynch for fear the DOJ would provide cover for Hillary?
HE provided cover when he concluded just before the election that Hillary ‘probably’ did commit criminal acts regarding the emails, but ‘he’ found nothing to charge her with.
Sounds like he is now trying to provide cover — FOR HIMSELF.
Liberals just trying to stop Russian story because it leads to Obama
Makes me want to scream and weep at once!
Liberals just trying to stop Russian story because it leads to Obama
Do not forget. Obama claimed the “first I heard of it was in news reports.” Later it was revealed that Obama, using a personal email himself, had in fact emailed Hillary. This means that Obama himself may also have violated the law just as she did. It also means he lied to the American people when he claimed ignorance.
I have believed all along that this was why the administration could not allow the investigation to move forward. It had little to do with her and everything to do with protecting him.
Comey should not “spill the beans.” He is now viewed, right or wrong, as being a partisan actor in the midst of it.
Trump should do what he pledged to do - appoint a special prosecutor and allow the investigation to proceed. That is the only answer to this mess and he prides himself on keeping his promises.
Comey showed us the the FBI has become nothing more than another corrupt organization used by Obama for his domestic spying and intimidation program.
Yeh We don’t want to think collusion, now do we??
I think it is because the general belief on both sides (although the left may not publicly admit it) is that Lynch was a complete political hack. You can blame her for supporting the Clintons no more than you can blame a scorpion for stinging - she still needs to be stepped on though.
As soon as she deferred to Comey, we ALL knew she was dirty.
Who is the person with the courage to go up against all the forces that will be allied against them to take down a non-white POTUS? Unfortunately, Sheriff Clarke is not a prosecutor.
