Why not....
Well of course a joke.
Why give up the West Coast? Well not quite. There’s still OR and WA.

Oregon and Washington west of the mountains very much should be included. Let Mexico have the whole coast.

We sell toll roads to foreign countries all the time. Why not make every street in California a toll road then sell it.

Sadly, they are adopting CA’s regs and laws, pretty much literally, (to save their effort of developing for their actual needs) which extends CA and its evil northward. Maybe delayed by a few years.
You can run, but you can not hide.

At one point during the Mexican War, the Mexican government offered to let the US have California north of the 37th parallel--knowing that further east, 36 degrees 30 minutes was the dividing line between where slavery was permitted and where it was not. Their hope was that Northern Congressmen would be happy to settle for that because they did not want more land that might be turned into slave states.
Rather than 37 degrees North, I would go with 36 degrees 30 minutes. That would let us keep King's Canyon and Sequoia National Parks along with Mt. Whitney (just barely), as well as Fresno...so Free Republic would not have to relocate. Of course we would still have the Bay Area, but no solution is perfect.
