Kim Guadagno vows to slash some N.J. property taxes, by as much as $3,000

TRENTON -- Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, the early Republican front-runner for governor, told NJ Advance Media on Tuesday she would slash New Jersey's notoriously high property taxes by up to $3,000 a year for homeowners who pay more than 5 percent of their household income on school taxes.

Guadagno said her proposal -- which she plans to officially roll out Wednesday morning -- would cut property taxes by $1.5 billion annually across New Jersey and aims to benefit those "who need property tax relief the most," such as younger residents, middle-class families, and senior citizens.

"It's the kind of plan all sides can support," Guadagno said in an interview. "It's directed at millennials living in their parents' house because they can't afford their own and working families struggling to avoid foreclosure, where $3,000 would make all the difference in the world."

So guess which property owners are going to make up for other property owners tax cuts?

This fool needs to reign in the teacher’s union and their insane pensions

Say what you will about California, we do have Prop 13 - My property tax is around $1,200 a year.

Without Prop 13 there would be no way I could keep the home living on a fixed income.

So let's see.

I'll never qualify for the %5 qualification. I have no kids in school and I haven't for 16 years. And a large part of the $10,000 or whatever of my total property taxes that goes to "education," doesn't even go to my neighbors' kids. It goes to kids in Newark or really to their school administrators who p*ssed away Zuckerberg's $100 million gift.

Giving others a break, means an increase for me. Put me down as opposed.

Reagan, Prop 13 and 3 strikes are the few sane things from Ca.

Of course they are doing away with 3 strikes a piece at a time.

In most states a $3000 property tax cut would be a big deal. In NJ not so big.

Shouldn’t people WITH kids be making up the difference?!

I loathe NJ. A third rate state that glories in it.

More BS from Trenton, another scam to sell you, another "tax cut" for your vote. Guano Guadagno is no better that Crispy Kreme and just another lying sack of crap in a long lineage of crap from Trenton.

I can't get out of NJ fast enough. 50 years is 49 too many.

Bret Schundler should have won in 2001. This mess wouldn’t have happened. NJ won’t have had McGreevey and Corzine. NJ is not doing well.

So what will be the affect?

Higher % of $$$ and control of schools in Trenton, as Trenton regulations increase demands on expanded funding from the state.

What if state taxes were drastically reduced, producing drastically greater money left to the taxpayer, to which local schools could try to get more $$$ locally, and with that allowed only with local demands for greater accountability of the schools’ professional and academic performance. Oh, sorry, I forget NJ GOP is not that conservative.

In 2003 I visited my aunt and uncle in New Jersey. They had to pay $9,000 in property tax on their paid off home that they bought for $43,000 back in 1959. I do not know what they pay now. If they were not well off they would have to sell the house and be forced to move elsewhere due to greedy government.
