Gorsuch's First Big Supreme Court Vote Allows Arkansas Execution

Justice Neil Gorsuch took his first major action on the U.S. Supreme Court by casting the deciding vote to let Arkansas begin executing a group of death-row inmates.

In a series of orders Thursday night, the high court cleared the state to execute Ledell Lee, one of eight convicted murderers that Arkansas has been trying to put to death before one of its lethal-injection drugs expires at the end of the month. Arkansas executed Lee minutes after the court rejected the last of his requests.

Gorsuch joined his four fellow Republican appointees -- Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas, Anthony Kennedy and Samuel Alito -- in the majority. They didn’t explain their reasons.

The court’s four liberal justices each voted to grant at least one of the requests to halt the executions. Justice Stephen Breyer said the state didn’t have an adequate reason to rush.

24 years to carry out a death sentence. Yeah, that was rushing. I hope the families of his victims can heal from everything they’ve been put through.

“24 years to carry out a death sentence”. Exactly. In what universe is that rushing?

Arkansas has been trying to put to death before one of its lethal-injection drugs expires at the end of the month

This is maybe more ridiculous than the 24 year death sentence. Electricity and bullets have no expiration date.

before one of its lethal-injection drugs expires

WTF? Who cares if it expired. It's not like the overall effectiveness is reduced by enough to interfere with the execution.

On the second point who cares if they experience any pain. I'm sure their victims experienced plenty. THe point of "cruel an unusual" was the infliction of pain for the sake of inflicting pain. Any pain experienced incidentally to the execution is irrelevant.

All the news we’ve heard locally has been 1 sided anti-DP with the West Memphis 3 leading it, we don’t even know what these 8 did to be put on DR. Or exactly how long it’s taken to get to this point.

If you are not familiar with the West Memphis 3 as teenagers they butchered 3 young boys to death in a most gruesome way, 1 got the DP, the others were not old enough and got life. A technicality got them set free many years later. Now they lead anti-DP marches.

No coverage from the victims family side.

In TN we have 1 on TN DR who beat, raped, strangled with her own shoelaces, tied in a blanket, threw her 8 year old body off the dock into the river to drown, left his DNA proof in her body, confessed, 2 jury trials, DP, all state and fed appeals upheld the DP, all are finished and our RINO GOV who is Lame Duck won’t sign the death warrant so Nikki gets no justice, it’s been 27 years.

Not a isolated case. If assisted suicide drugs are painless use them. If drugs to put down horses and cows are painless use them. We victims can be taught how to use them and will be glad to do the job if cowards won’t. Nikki’s mom and I will gladly go to Nashville and off the Prep.

I would imagine the state has enough heroin in it’s possession that it could use that to perform these executions. Just slowly administer it and up the dosage until they die.

problem solved.

You don’t heal, that is what no one understands, you just have some better times. Less Stress, fewer appeal hearings you have to pay to attend. And NO worry some LIBTARD justice is going to reverse the sentence, order a new trial, and start the process all over, or free them on a technicality. Then worry if you will be their next victim out of vengeance.

Crime isn’t always a reason a person chooses to CCW, I do because the calendar said my son was 16, he was physically and mentally 12, his killer walks Tennessee’s streets a free man as he maxed out his ‘good behavior’ time, a RINO A$$ AG plea bargained a M1 to a M2 and gave the Perp 20 yrs out of a range of 10-30 for beating my son to death with a 2 ft section of fence post for the thrill to see what it felt like to kill, then dragged his friends to the scene, a sociopath. I eked out 12.5 yrs of that 20 yrs. I’m his #1 target if he can find me. 6 parole hearings, the first 10 months after the it took 2 yrs to reach that plea deal.

So yes, if they’d put Nikki’s killer on that table her mom and I would learn how to put the POS down!

The deciding vote?

Gorsuch was one of five people to vote the way he did, and any of them could be called the deciding vote, in deference to the other four.

The media always names the person they hate the most, as the deciding vote, especially if it’s something they don’t agree with.

A plethora of 5/4 decisions prove the court is political. Most decisions should be 9/0 in a sane world.

Electricity and bullets have no expiration date.

Neither does dry nitrogen. N2 is cheap, readily available, nontoxic, and absolutely lethal.
