The GOPs first shot at fixing Obamacare was an absolute dumpster fire. Paul Ryan never bothered to get conservatives involved and it cost him big time. He couldnt even get his Obamacare lite bill to the floor for a vote. Now, it looks like Mike Pence got involved in the negotiations and an agreement was made.
"#BREAKING Sources tell me @mike_pence, @SpeakerRyan, @RepMarkMeadows and @RepTomMacArthur negotiated a possible amendment to the #AHCA."

"#BREAKING The possible amendment is titled the "MacArthur Amendment" and sources tell me it could bring up to 15-20 new @freedomcaucus votes"

"#BREAKING No vote has been scheduled. The big questions are: Will members of the Tuesday Group support this? Will @Heritage_Action support?"

“People who have pre-existing conditions just want to be insured. Poor health can happen to anyone.”
Covering Prex is not Insurance. Insurance is based on a predictability of an event occurring. Covering Prex is Medical Payment.
No, people who get AIDS and otherwise destroy their health by self inflicted abuse, and THEN decide to buy "health insurance"...demanding the same premium level, are parasites.
And...not all "pre-existing conditions" are created equal. I'm pretty sure psoriasis or athletes foot is not considered a condition that would render someone "uninsurable" in the regular risk pool.
Welfare. Shorthand.
The question is do we want to help the truly afflicted? Will it be exploited. Of course. Human nature and the left thrives on it.
That may well be a statistic, but "uninsurables" comprise about 1% of the insured population.
Most people over 65 are "old geezers" by insurance standards and are more likely to participate in MediCare. That segment of the population and those pre-x's don't count. Their healthcare is covered seperately.
The bulk of the insurable population are healthy employed families, and most of them are in employer provided groups. In group insurance, community rating and guaranteed issue are commonplace...the carriers figure if you're healthy enough to work...you're healthy enough to insure. These people are less effected by the provisions in question.
Another large segment is the "individual market"...self-employed, the farm families, and those not eligible to participate in employer groups. That's where all these onerous and wrongheaded regulations and prohibitions come crashing down on regular working people.
I completely agree that the fed gov has no place in the regulation of health insurance other than encouraging the establishment of privately funded high risk pools, and clearing the way for interstate competition.
(and the creation of "Association Health Plans".
..........If this does not truly LOWER costs for folks then it’s another FRAUD on the American People by the Republican Party.
At least with Democrats we know what we are getting! The shaft!
With Republicans, it’s worse because they LIE !!!
What does this buy us?
We get to pay for their care via taxes rather than our insurance premiums?
Fixed it with the truth.
Great illustration of why it gets so complicated. There are likely a thousand such "requirements" by those across the spectrum of those who want ObamaCare gone...
No, they’re parasites if they demand someone else pay for their coverage.
In other words just change the name and push on.
Nope. You hit the nail on the head.
And if the RINO’s pull out all the underlying taxes/fees, premiums are likely to rise even more dramatically.
The wife and I need a policy to cover between about age 60 and 65 if we do early retirement, I just priced it out for central California (off-exchange, but still subject to the mandated “EHB” crud)...$960.00/mo. with a $5850.00 p/p deductible!!!!! Minimum $17,370. to $23,220. out of pocket before insurance pays anything. Totally crazy! Much cheaper to pay cash for everything and go without insurance!
Guess we’ll have to look at “Medishare Programs” also.
