White House, GOP Leaders at Odds Over Plans for Obamacare Vote

The Trump White House and congressional Republicans were at odds Thursday over whether to try for another vote on replacing Obamacare next week, indicating that neither side had a clear strategy for moving on one of the president’s central campaign promises.

A White House aide said President Donald Trump’s administration expects the House to vote soon after lawmakers return from recess on Tuesday and draft language could be circulated as soon as Thursday night. Success would give the president a legislative victory to boast about before his 100th day in office April 29.

But a senior House Republican aide said that revised language for a bill hasn’t been agreed on and there’s no text yet for lawmakers to review. There’s no target date for a vote, whether next week or at any future time, the aide said.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said a day earlier while on a trip to London that lawmakers were negotiating “finishing touches.”

Repeal of the Affordable Care Act was a major Trump campaign promise and a longtime goal of House Republicans. But a vote next week may risk another big political embarrassment like the one in March when Trump and Ryan abruptly scrapped a vote for lack of Republican support.

“The political ramifications of trying to pass a bill and failing is just one piece of this,” said Joshua Huder, a congressional expert at the Government Affairs Institute at Georgetown University. “Members may be desperate to give their constituents something in return for having the majority for four months.”

“That pressure to try may be more important than the consequences of falling short again,” he said.

Too much emphasis on 100 days.

No emphasis on repeal.

Repeal: 1.revoke or annul (a law or congressional act):

Too much emphasis on 100 days.....you got that right!

However, Republicans, Congress and Senate had better get behind the President if they are to keep the lot...mid terms for some may prove devastating if they don't support and help President Trump.

President Trump is finding out that changing the course of this 'ship' is like a twenty foot boat with a 1 hp outboard motor in breaking up the fiefdoms within the humongous agencies many of which are no longer needed and cost the taxpayers unnecessarily.

Just REPEAL the damned thing. A one sentence bill will do it.

Ryan is in London instead of home minding to business? Bad.

Actually, you can’t. Too many people have lost insurance and been screwed by accepting the government’s promise, their insurance company left, so a pure repeal would screw all those who accepted the government at face value.

Repeal it with transitional coverage. 6 months is long enough for companies to all have offerings again. Heck 3 months is probably long enough.

I don’t understand why this is tough. Repeal Obamacare, pass law so that people can buy as little or as much health insurance as they want, and with the money saved by getting rid of O-care, help those left in the lurch. Also, US desperately needs tort reform. Then let the free market work it’s magic. This might get rid of a lot of state bureaucrats and politicians who micro-manage health insurance now as a bonus.

Maybe Ryan should have GOP-caucus-only meetings on this until he can get their votes on something.

Even with that they are screwed in the Senate.

in that event i would provide a phase-out SHOPPING period of time for those who had insurance previously and who show they can’t get it now

terminate Ocare quickly but
phase just that subset of people out in a reasonable timeframe

Ocare stinks anyway when it comes to ACTUALLY FINDING AND GETTING good medical care........no matter what the ‘policy’ may say

most doctors refuse to accept Ocare anyway, we found out that at least 9 MD’s absolutely refuse to accept it under any circumstances (bureaucrappic overload, paperwork excess and poor pay reputation)

their patients were better off before Ocare, since those doctors WERE willing to treat them on other insurances

ANYWAY .. maybe there are some Ocare people who need a reasonable phaseout period, so that’s ok with me as long as its clear that Ocare is being terminated.

Repeal it with transitional coverage. 6 months is long enough for companies to all have offerings again. Heck 3 months is probably long enough.>>> problem is the individual market is a loser for any insco and they will not cover preexisting conditions and people who lose jobs and have to go to the individual market. an FDIC type risk pool paid for by hospitals and inscos and offer catastrophic or cover extraordinary loses due to these individuals.
