the Armenian genocide, an event Turkey does not recognize.

“One and a half million people were killed in the most brutal fashion, and I knew nothing about it, and that’s not uncommon

...

The fact that this Armenian genocide happened and no one was ever held accountable may have provoked other genocides since.”

At least 26 countries recognize the deaths as genocide, but in Turkey it is reportedly illegal to bring up the event.

I have a seven-volume series called “The Great Events of the Great War” written in 1920. In the final volume are listed battle deaths at 7,200,000 and civilian deaths at 9,000.000. Of those 9,000,000 Armenians account for 1,100,000 and Greeks in Turkey for 900,000. So if it weren’t for the Turks, WWI would have probably been the first war in all history in which there were more combatants killed than civilians.

I’m not familiar with the history of this but I have known one Armenian and she was one bad ass and I would not want to be on the receiving end of her wrath. Tough chick for sure. Attractive but very headstrong and a total type A personality. Borderline nut case. Does that mean anything? Probably not. If I had met other Armenian’s who were also like she was then yes; it would mean there’s a certain trait that runs in the bloodline. Maybe others can tell of their experience with those they met.

In 1910 Turkey had a population of roughly 7 million. With the Greek-Armenian-Assyrian Genocides they nearly killed a third of their own population. There population rebounded because they had repatriation agreements with former Ottoman countries.

Good for him. While going to college in Fresno it was always a topic. There is a large Armenian community there and has the William Soroyian theater who was a great literary artist.

Just my opinion but what power do Turks have in the US? We could call this a genocide tomorrow if we wanted to and who would stop us?

My guess is some other group objects to the word genocide being used. I mean we wouldn’t want to equate this atrocity with others.

If you Google it you can see photos of crucified women, identified as Armenian Christians by their unique clothing.

The Wiki article is fairly biased, but gets the essential facts correct.

One of the key witnesses to the atrocities was a Venezuelan officer in the Ottoman Turk Army. He was a soldier of fortune who ended up seeing these events first hand.

To be somewhat fair, the Armenian Genocide occurred concurrently with the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, Collapse of the Russian Empire/Russian Civil War, World War I, and other regional assorted chaos.

But there simply was no rational reason for this slaughter except raw ethnic/religious hatred. In a chaotic, violent, era this event stands out for its horror.

members of the California Legislature commemorated the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, even as the United States of America continues to turn a blind eye to the genocide of 1.5 million Armenians.

As Muslims the Turks are born liars. They murdered the Armenians because they were Christians and knew the world was busy elsewhere so they could get away with it.

Won’t the “Coexist” bumper sticker make everything ok?

We will see this film.
