I kind of wanted to join the Navy, but chose the USAF instead, primarily for that reason. I didn't want to be stuck out at sea, for LONG periods of time.

That’s touching. But facts are facts. She would better serve her country by having a family during those precious reproduction years a woman has and by being there for her kids. Performing man roles isn’t good hour her, or us.
All she can do on a warship is hurt the effort. It’s not about her.

Here’s a suggestion, which would save a lot of money: Have a height requirement, with concomitant strength (if that can be assessed). Depending upon their needs, all service branches do it to one extent or another.

I think females on submarines is a terrible idea. When I was on a Carrier, a lot of them got pregnant, and weren’t available for deployment. That problem is magnified on a submarine because of the smaller crew. If one crew member, especially from the Engineering department, can’t make movement, it gets very hard to make the watchbill, and you would have to take a guy from another boat.
A fine movie by any measure. Makes a rotten policy manual, though.

Why do we even have to go to the Navy to know this is a bad idea? The USAF has had women in aircraft maintenance for decades, and it’s been a failure. Some can do the job but most can’t even do the heavy lifting. At best one out of 8 is the success rate. Heard that the USAF tried a few times to run the numbers but they were so bad they had to stop the process before it was finished due to political correctness. It didn’t fit and nobody wanted to ruin their career even if the numbers were on their side. Something often not brought up is that training costs money plus resources and failures waste it. If putting women in aircraft maintenance was an experiment, it would have failed.
The heavy lifting part alone should disqualify women from almost every single job the military has to offer enlistees, except for JAG, Chaplain and so on. Women officers, I think are more successful (career minded) and more mature when they first go on active duty, but what happens when they get captured? They would get raped dozens of times a day.

Women hurt readiness. Thats what it should be about.
I don’t care that there are women sprinkled here and there that are doing a good job. Those are anomalies, not the norm. If we were serious about having the most prepared military that operated at peak efficiency women would not be on combat ships or combat units. Nothing can be said to negate that FACT.

Women on subs is all about making women feel good about themselves, thats it. It makes ZERO sense. There is not one thing supporters can say to justify women on subs. Hell, i can’t justify any reason for women on any ship.
Ship’s doctor now has to have a gynecology degree?
