BREAKING: Jon Ossoff Finishes Below 50% (Another Humiliating Democrat Defeat)
mediaite.com ^ | April 19th, 2017

This evening, all eyes were on the special election in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District as Democrats were hoping to flip the seat that has been held by Republicans for decades. The seat recently opened up after Republican Tom Price left to take over as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Going into the night, Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff was way up in the polls as a number of GOP hopefuls threw their hats into the ring. However, despite the fact that he was polling in the mid-40s, roughly 30 points ahead of his nearest opponent, Ossoff and Democrats knew he needed to get more support in order to gain at least 50% and avoid a runoff.

In the end, Ossoff ended up pulling in less than 50%, with totals showing him at 48.6% after a huge dump of votes came in from Fulton County around midnight, leading to numerous outlets to project this as heading to a runoff.

If this late night vote dump prevented Ossoff from winning, we might start hearing accusations from the Democrats about someone interfering in the election.

Not that familiar with Georgia other than a visit years ago to Atlanta. When the Underground was ‘cool’; and the fact that PEACH was the most popular word around.

Handel will win

Research the area

Yankee immigration and rich blacks have hurt but it’s still a GOP district

95% of his donors are form out of state - his support here in GA is not as robust as he might think and Karen Handel will shut him down in a head-to head race!

>>Bottom line, the “make Trump mad” stuff didn’t even play into Ossoff’s strategy in the least.

It may not have been an explicit part of his campaign, but do you never talk to any Dems? It was absolutely a driving reason for this effort.

>> I wonder how many of the 11 republican candidates were hired by the democrats to run.

Given that I know some of the candidates, have talked to most, and heard all of them speak, I’d say =zero=.

This frequent conjecture, often stated as a certainty, is absurd, especially when you see the background of many of the candidates and hear their positions.

Take a few minutes to look at a couple of the low-percentage candidates if you don’t believe me. I suggest Bruce LeVell and Kurt Wilson.

Scrap early voting.

Amen. In every election in every state. It should never have been adopted anywhere.

Yes, it does increase the fraud factor. The more days the polls are open, the more opportunities there are for the criminally-minded to vote multiple times. It's as simple as that.

>>Actually, this is what the founders intended: Citizens showing interest in participating in our government. More, please.

You’re one of the few who seems to get it on this. For all the yelling and screaming about “circular firing squad” and “Dems are putting in fake Republican candidates”, I see no problem here. There were some really good people running, and not just in the top few finishers.

We have a lot of good Republicans in GA. Its a red state that’s why so many candidates. And now Karen Handel a moderate Republican will win handily in the June runoff.

That’s is a good comparison. 8 million for a primary/runoff is astounding. I did rough math on this and even in a bad year, the Pub candidate can get 140k (up to 200k+ on a good year). Even in their best year, the dem candidate can only muster 124k; been that way for awhile.

Yes, I found this "very good news" almost as a footnote at the bottom of the front page of our local rag.

A far cry from yesterday's breathlessly hopeful banner headline.

No surprise, they don't even pretend to be objective anymore.
