North Korea will continue to test missiles despite international condemnation and increasing military tensions with the US, a senior official has told the BBC in Pyongyang.
"We'll be conducting more missile tests on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis," Vice Foreign Minister Han Song-Ryol told the BBC's John Sudworth. He said that an "all out war" would result if the US took military action. Earlier, US Vice-President Mike Pence warned North Korea not to test the US. He said his country's "era of strategic patience" with North Korea was over.
Mr Pence arrived in Seoul on Sunday hours after North Korea carried out a failed missile launch. Tensions have been escalating on the peninsula, with heated rhetoric from both North Korea and the US. What can the outside world do about N Korea? All about North Korea's missiles Speaking alongside South Korea's acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn, Mr Pence said North Korea should not test US President Donald Trump.
"Just in the past two weeks, the world witnessed the strength and resolve of our new president in actions taken in Syria and Afghanistan," Mr Pence said. "North Korea would do well not to test his resolve or the strength of the armed forces of the United States in this region." He reiterated US support for South Korea, telling his host: "We are with you 100%."
At a news conference at the UN on Monday, North Korea's permanent representative Ambassador Kim In-ryong, condemned the US missile strikes in Syria, which targeted an air base after a suspected chemical attack by the government.]
He said the US was "disturbing global peace and stability and insisting on [a] gangster-like logic".
The NK brand name is not doing well these day. I wonder if the bombs that NK sold to their terrorist friends in the ME are defective as well.
What are the chances that an armed missile will go nuke on the launch pad?
If every few hours, the Norks tug a 130mm gun out of a cave and lob a dozen shells at Seoul, you shut down the largest city in Korea.
And send the region and the world spiraling into recession/depression.
How long does it take to put a bomb in each cave entrance within range and verify that, yes, it's destroyed?
Yes indeed-dee.....fire away Fat Boy....we’ll not only blow them up but we’ll deplete what you have!
The strike groups anti-air defenses can be overwhelmed very quickly.
Seoul will gladly MOAB such a place and its commanders. And not too surprised if Trump jumped in.
“North Korea ‘will test missiles weekly”
In a few weeks, they will be out of Styrofoam.
Fixed it.
All this only distracts us from concentrating on who our real enemy is — I-S-L-A-M.
Lots of caves and not enough MOAB's.
Keep in mind the Norks have been digging caves and hiding stuff for decades.
We don't even know if we've found all the tunnels under the DMZ...
It seems one of the primary factors that has held back consideration of an attack is the likelihood of, and capability for North Korea to retaliate against Seoul. However, those artillery commanders along the DMZ have to be aware that a U.S. attack is occurring north of them, and they have to receive the command to fire. I have no doubt that we would have little trouble disrupting their lines of communication before they even realized we were there.
Who’s going to keep fighting for very long for a vanquished Dear Leader?
Cut off the head and we don’t have to worry about the tentacles.
One thing I noticed is that the “Dear Leader” never gives speeches, in fact when they put the camera on him when someone else is speaking, it looks like he’s about the fall asleep.
And what’s funny is that whenever someone gives a speech, the camera is rarely on them, they pan the crowd, and usually the commentator is talking over them.
Kim doesn’t have the number of threats worthy of an Aegis AMB response.
I’m not talking about all of the small rockets he has aimed at SK.
Those would require some type of massive pre-emptive attack.
Yeah, he won’t even give them the respect that, say, Donald Trump gives to us.
They need an even dearer leader... one who won’t play games like this.
And Kim Jong Il, had a speech impediment, which is why he rarely spoke in public.
Sometimes I wonder what the Dear Leader is really saying to those generals. I surmised that he’s just telling them a bunch of dirty jokes.
Regime change? Sounds great. But how do we get to pick the new one without an invasion?
