For the first time in 12 years I am breaking two traditions for the TCMS. Each year the shoot is held at different locations; although some ranges were visited two or more times, it has never happened in consecutive years. But because my life has been a bit wonky lately I just don’t have the energy for the research and recon.
The other broken tradition is the name change. This year we will also honor my co-cat herder, NYTexan, and my beloved husband, Eaker; both of these fine men passed away within days of each other this past March.
Therefore, the shoot will mirror last year’s shoot. I spoke with the folks at Cherokee Village Resort this afternoon and temporarily reserved the entire place for October 19 ~ 22, 2017. Tomorrow I will call and confirm those dates, then post the final date to make your reservations. When calling to make a reservation, mention that you are with the TexasCowboy group. You will have to make a deposit equal to a one night stay.
The shoot will be held at Hicksville Gun Range, in Gatesville, starting at 10:00 a.m. on the 21st. Where once again we can enjoy the range dogs, the owners and lunch provided by our own cook, cpdiii.
humblegunner has volunteered to make some containers in which to place Eaker’s ashes, which will be attached to containers of tannerite so that we can all blow Eaker’s ashes into the wind. It will be an epic send off!
A “dip” in October? I can’t imagine it being that warm...even in central Texas. LOL!
Some years a little swimming in October has been good. It’s not looking likely this year because I think fall has arrived. We only had 3 days when we hit 100 this year. What’s up with that? Next 2 weeks all the forecasts are highs in the 80’s. This is just wrong for central Texas!
Y’all swim all you want, I’ve done enough swimming here in Houston this week to last me for at least six months.

“Hey - I just talked to the folks at Cherokee Village. They told me that 7 of the “hotel” rooms still have not been reserved. He also said that there is a group of men working on a project in the area that want to reserve those rooms (from Mon - Thurs). The CV people will be working out the deal tomorrow morning.
Let people know this and for them to get off their butts and make the reservations.”

I’m so busy at work that I don’t think I can attend this year. If I can swing on the fly I might drive down and skip all the detours. I wish I could make it again.

Man! Sorry you can’t make it this year! Start making plans for next year, though, because there WILL be a next year!
I am up in Canada on vacation. When I return I shall buy brisket and put it in the freezer. When I buy brisket I look at how many days until expiration. That is how many days I let it age in the refrigerator after it is thawed. It makes it taste better.
