TexasCowboy +Two Memorial Shoot XII Planning Thread
My Brain | 04-11-17 | TheMom

Posted on 04/11/2017 4:07:43 PM PDT by TheMom

For the first time in 12 years I am breaking two traditions for the TCMS. Each year the shoot is held at different locations; although some ranges were visited two or more times, it has never happened in consecutive years. But because my life has been a bit wonky lately I just don’t have the energy for the research and recon.

The other broken tradition is the name change. This year we will also honor my co-cat herder, NYTexan, and my beloved husband, Eaker; both of these fine men passed away within days of each other this past March.

Therefore, the shoot will mirror last year’s shoot. I spoke with the folks at Cherokee Village Resort this afternoon and temporarily reserved the entire place for October 19 ~ 22, 2017. Tomorrow I will call and confirm those dates, then post the final date to make your reservations. When calling to make a reservation, mention that you are with the TexasCowboy group. You will have to make a deposit equal to a one night stay.

The shoot will be held at Hicksville Gun Range, in Gatesville, starting at 10:00 a.m. on the 21st. Where once again we can enjoy the range dogs, the owners and lunch provided by our own cook, cpdiii.

humblegunner has volunteered to make some containers in which to place Eaker’s ashes, which will be attached to containers of tannerite so that we can all blow Eaker’s ashes into the wind. It will be an epic send off!

YES!

Those dates will be OKay for me!

My lease is up in October, but I'll make sure I move well in advance. Maybe next month! LOL.

I'll call the place tomorrow to inquire about room sizes and availability.

ALREADY EXCITED!

I wonder if I can (or should) bring my Louie. He's my French Bulldog puppy who never leaves my side. He'll be a grown-up boy by then.

(I had been counting on Eaker to be there with his dogs and to help me with Louie)
:(

Glad to hear you will be there. We have missed you at the past few shoots.

CHR’s pet policy is they allow dogs under 25 lbs.

The Tannerite was a “blast” last year, my home range won’t let us use it, probably for good reason.

Many ranges don’t.
We’ve found the more casual, less uptight ranges to be a hell of a lot more fun.

I read it wrong, thought you said, “less upright.”

Just how much Tannerite would we have to shoot before we needed to bring in a dozer to backfill the crater?

Let's stop just short of that this year.

This particular range is on our side and might welcome a new stock tank somewhere.

I found Ammonium Nitrate in a fifty pound bag for $70 plus $5 shipping. Then the aluminum powder is about $25 for two and a half pounds.

That would mix up fifty-two pounds of homemade tannerite for about a hundred bucks.

Do I have to bring a combat helmet with?

I want to, I have permission, but I have to figure out if it is feasible. I give it a 75% chance!

That might not be a bad idea.

I absolutely loved Texas Cowboy.

I need to relearn how to shoot. Wish I could come so you all could teach me! So sad that many are gone.

Sadly I have never made it out to one of the TCMS gatherings. I envy everyone there as it looks like they all have a fabulous time.

My mom is apparently being taken to Hawaii in the fall- only if those dates are the same, and it’s not in my control, would I be free to travel. I care for her (she has Alzheimer’s). But how fun would that be? I haven’t met many FReepers in person since the 2000 election results freeping in LA.
